Bingo! Took me years to like the whole album.

Also:

Pink Floyd - The Wall (I don't know why it all of a sudden just clicked one summer day when I listened to it)

Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction (continually liked one more song with each listen, but hated everything but the 3 singles on first listen)

KISS - Alive

U2 - Achtung Baby

Paul McCartney - Band On The Run

Frank Zappa - We're Only In It For The Money

The Who - Tommy (but thats mainly because I saw the movie first, and I couldn't get the stupid story out of my head enough to listen to the awesome music.)

Looking back, its usually double albums that gave me the most trouble on first listen.

GHS, IORR & B&B - liked some tracks but couldn't listen to them the whole way through at first.

White Album

Blood On The Tracks

{On-topic (?--albums, but includes RS mentions only, so may be off-topic (OT)for this topic, but on-topic for IORR)}, I can say that I "warmed up to" if not so much 'hated-->liked' these albums:

Undercover

Bridges to Babylon

{Off-topic (OT): songs, but includes RS mentions only, so definitely OT for the topic, but on-topic for IORR, but more OT than if we were talking about albums. Just saying. Probably not worthy of typing, even.)}, I must say that I do not hate any song that the Stones have ever played, that I am aware of. They even did justice to Chantilly Lace, a song which I cordially detest, by making it completely unrecognizable.

Thanks, Stones. That is why I am here, postin' like a fanboy.

Um, thanks. smileys with beer

I still can't stand "Sweet Black Angel". Pretty much everything about it rubs me the wrong way: the tune itself, the arrangement and sound mix, and of course Jagger's fake Caribbean vocal stylings.

I took Let It Bleed back to the record shop the day after purchasing it. At the time, I primarily listened to the 1963-67 Stones. I found some of the lengthier tracks off putting. Its' probably my favourite Stones album, now.

If it's an album that people whose opinions I respect consider to be a masterpiece, then, yeah, I'll give it another listen, and try to figure out what it is they're hearing that I'm not. I'll also give second chances to obviously terrible albums if they're by artists I like. If I'm still not "getting it" by the third or fourth listen (ABB or The Who's Endless Wire, for example), then I give up.

Thanks for putting this up, I just love this video, they all look like they are having so much fun...we'll maybe not Charlie.

I'm still warming up to IORR, been listening to it more lately, and it's growing on me.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that took awhile with Exile. Especially with albums like these, I wonder if the Stones knew at the time it was going to be a "masterpiece". Did they take a chance with putting all those songs on knowing that some weren't good, or did they genuinely like each one and know that eventually it would grow on everybody? Probably can't be answered, but especially with an album like that that has so many different directions its interesting to think about.

The following spring to mind:

1. John Fogerty: Blue Ridge Rangers (1973 album)

2. Richard Thompson - Rumor & Sigh (It took four listens, and now I love it)

3. John Prine: Pink Cadillac (Enjoyed JP as a folk / country guy, but this was a departure. It was also one of the last Sam Phillips' produced albums)

4. Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom (a departure from the first 5 albums, but worth it after repeated listening)

5. Shutter Island OST - Again, this needs repeated listenings, but once you get into the modern Classical pieces, it is a wonderfully excellent album, compiled by Robbie Robertson of all people.

6. Radiohead - Kid A (About 6 listens, until I got it)

7. David Byrne / Brian Eno - My Life In The Bush of Ghosts

8. Johnny Cash - Man In Black (1971 album. It covers social protest, gospel, folk, and is an utter curveball from the prison albums, and from Hello I'm Johnny Cash)

9. Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece - didn't like it to begin with, but adore it now.

10. Nick Cave - Boatman's Call. A subdued album, and most unlike Murder Ballads. However, it took four listens before I understood it.

I'm not sure that I've hated an album and then listened to it a lot.

There are plenty that took me a while to get into but an album has to have something to make me want to play it again.

As far as Stones content goes... Undercover. Laughed at it the first few times, but fell in love with She Was Hot and the next thing I knew I was digging the whole album.

Other bands... Joy Division. The first time I heard Ian Curtis's voice I thought "I can't believe someone let him sing... and I can't believe people worship these guys."

Next thing I knew they became my favourite band for a couple of years.
