OT: Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd Last Night

first night of their 2013 tour, at the Beacon in NYC, on what would have been Ronnie's 65th birthday. They were smokin' hot and I'm glad I got to see them again. Rushed the stage for the last 4 songs (Gimme 3 Steps, Call me the Breeze, Sweet Home and Free Bird) - was the highlight. Guitar jams galore, great tunes... Tuesday's Gone!

I can't imagine the excrutiating pain of sitting through a live version of Free Bird. (Although I like some of their other numbers).

MUCH better than having to sit through the studio cut for the ###th time. At least live you're surrounded by many people who will be enjoying themselves or you have the option to take it as a cue to head to the parking lot 13 minutes before everyone else gets there. Being trapped in a situation where I'm unable to turn off the studio cut I'd equate to something along the lines of water-boarding.

When I look back to the one time I saw Skynyd live (I thoroughly enjoyed myself) I remember "Free Bird" was a great time to "People Watch".

Peace,
Mr DJA

Allen Collins guitar, Billy Powell piano and Leon Wilkerson bass are also passed... RIP....Ed King guitar is no longer in the band... Really just one guy left Gary Rossington... Ricky Medlock is amazing, tho.... Hey I have no problem with the present band making a living but they should be call it "Freebird" or "friends of....." These hillbillies have no shame...

According to Van Zants widow three original members has to be in the band to get the right to call themself Lynyrd Skynrd. Now they are only one, even with Ed King they are one man short.

wish I'd seen them in clubs.

Their current drummer, Michael Cartellone is awesome. He was the drummer for the Damn Yankees in the early 90's.

Them playing Free Bird on the Stones European tour in the 70s is just classic to watch. Guitar solos on the tongue, which I've heard really pissed off the Stones as no one was supposed to take advantage of their stage.
