Burke was named general manager on Nov. 29, 2008. The Leafs hold the NHL's longest active post-season drought, having not made the playoffs since 2004.
"To me, your job performance as a general manager will dictate your longevity," he said in an interview with the National Post in December. "This stuff won't change that.
They're unrelated."
Several Leafs officials could not be reached for comment, but the team scheduled a news conference promising a major announcement at 1:45 p.m. ET.

I'd like to see the fans sit on their hands for the first 2 minutes in every arena and not make a sound .

All these owners and players are nothing but greedy pigs . Some of us have to work 2 lifetimes to earn what an average player makes in one season .

I usually attend a few Bruins games yearly but this year I'm going on a lockout .

Thanks andrewm! As far as the NBA, Go Bulls! Actually, alot of Canadians are cheering for the Lakers this year since local BCer Steve Nash is now playing for them. There's also another local product on the Lakers although I can't remember his name.
Can't believe Burke got fired in TO. Wonder if this will speed up the Luongo to the Leafs trade?

Yeah, I know. However they were originally named the Blackhawks and were wrongly called the Black Hawks for eons. Fortuantely they went back to the original name.

So, splitting hairs then.

DGA35, I think the Burke firing will probably expedite that Luongo trade. The theory seems to be that Burke's aversion to making that deal may be behind this. As a Leafs fan (pity me!) I certainly felt frustrated by Burke's relative inactivity over the summer. Today is an interesting day for us long-suffering Buds fans.

Well, I would argue that debating whether fans should refer to them as the Blackhawks or the Hawks IS splitting hairs. I certainly understood what team DGA35 was referring to, especially since this is a thread about hockey. Not really sure why it's bothering you.
