The problem with the 2012 stage is that people who are not inside the circle feel left out of the club. A show should not be segregated into a "Haves and Have Nots"

Lucky they didn't end up with a Stonehenge sized stage

What was this band who had a Stonehenge-like stage built for an arena tour?
The plans were fine but drawn in centimeters... the engineers who built the things read the plans and understood the figures were in inches. So the props were built 2.5 times too big and they could fit any indoor venue! grinning smiley

The 1981 stage looked like a hill because many traditional theater stages aren't really level. They go up toward the back, slightly, to give the audience a better view. The '81 stage was just an extreme example. I don't know how Keith, Bill and Ronnie stodd on the damned thing, frankly.

Voodoo Lounge? In the '75/US '76/Europe Love You Live/TOTA tour, they had that large circular hole near the center front of the Lotus stage which supported 3 fuctions: PeanutGallery

Yeah — that's the ticket; that's the ticket!

Now for the tough part — what were the 3? No cheating now; no looking back.

Glad you could add.

Talking about stage designs I just came across this picture from the 2007 O2 shows and...it looks a lot like the 2012 stage, including the black round patches (vents?) minus the catwalk and the lips in the back.

81 outdoor show - I guess i never understood why this stage looks like a hill.

A ticket broker told me it was because people sitting close to the outdoor stage in 78 could not see Charlie at all because he was further back. The 81 stage was the fix for that. Why they didn't just make the lower to the ground in the first place is my question.

Why do you take off the 1972 and 1973's Chip Monk nice work? The reversed mirror with indireted light shows and the dragoon design were brilliant, pun intented.

Would put Steel Wheel first on your list. It was a ghost city on its own.

This is just a personal pet peeve, but I hate those mega fans. They're probably sunk into the floor of stage. But you see the front singer, and the 'wind' is sometimes almost blowing them down.

Give the drummer an old plug-in fan with a grate on it;balance it on a monitor speaker, and the rest of the band got to sweat it out.

1. Bridges
2. Steel Wheels
3. Voodoo
4. 50 and Counting
5. Bang/Licks tie
- unfair to compare '81 and earlier due to tech changes -

1. The Lotus stage
2. The 81 indoor stage loved it especially Hampton Virginia when they put the ramps running down both sides of the arena.

On another note the Urban Jungle and Voodoo stage are the same stage just configured differently
