Ying and yang time. We said what we hated about them, so what do we love most????? This would seem most important to me, or we wouldn't be posting here, I should think/ hope. For starters
-are World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band far outlasting any of the competition!!!!!!!!
-a great concert experience, must be, we keep going back and back.....
-just a buncha lads who dun good, real good, keeps the dream alive!
1> kept their music for the most part true to their roots in the blues but were still able to grow and expand from being just a Blues band and they themselves became as influential in music as the Blues legends they learned from.
2> Set the standard for a touring Rock band, the first one to have the front man who not only sang but entertained and made shows exciting, yes their was Elvis and James Brown before them but they were solo performers.
3>They made Exile on Main Steet, in my opinion the best LP ever made.

They are the benchmark for bands today, no matter how bad Mick's voice might have been at times or the band's overall sound on occasion...Mick NEVER lip-synched like some of these so called singers today.
Unlike the Beatles, who stopped touring in 1966, the Stones continue to embark on massive world tours, although there are fewer tours left and more tours already past.
Mick and Keith are the true meaning of "til death do us part"!
To me The Stones are an institution. They have a long history with many many ups and downs. I love reading Stones books. They wrote songs other bands can only dream of. The Stones are real characters. They are a way of life. The whole Stones pack: Their music, their shows, their history, their look make The Stones so unique.

Mandu, these are exactly the three things I was thinking to write down..."Midnight Rambler" is THE song that led me to the harmonica :-) !
1) JJF, GS, SFTD, MR, HTW, SM and and and 2) not so pretentious about social issues as other smarties 3) Goosepimpels before a show, never had anything like that... and and and
Difficult to mention different points, I just love them because of their music and what it means to me. They have quite a large part in my life, they are like a best friend and a lover I wouldn't want to live without.
1. Their incorporation of blues into their rock n roll sound. 2. The massive amount of great music they have given us. 3. Their longevity and desire to still want to play
I could list about a hundred things but those are the basics without getting into detail.
1. The electricity that flies around the building before the Stones even leave the backstage area. 2. The thought that when you do leave the bar area, and go into the: Stadium, Arena, Theatre..you just might see the greatest concert of your life. 3. Coming out of the: Stadium, Arena, Theatre convinced that you have in fact seen the greatest concert of your life...these remain truths to this day.
#1. = The thirteen live shows I have seen since December 1981. #2. = The larger than life attitude that the four of them exude. #3. = The Tongue logo. Pure and Classic!!
1) Their ability to write some CLASSIC songs in the past 2) Their ability to continue to strive to match or exceed their best 3) Their patience with fans who demand new 'classic' stuff all the time!
Much harder than 3 things i hate because the Stones are a "whole thing" in my life like God for the ones who have faith. By the way, there are less replies to this thread. 1. The 2. Rolling 3. Stones
But to be more specific with details : 1. when they smile on stage 2. my physical sensations everytime they hit the stage 3. many many intros.
PS : Hey Mathijs, what do you like about the Stones? i die to read you...
1 Their "up and at'em" attitude. 2 Their unique sound (from all three incarnations). 3 ...and no matter how cynical I can sometimes become about them, I just cannot help but come back for more. It must be love.
The albums (CD's for those under 40) that have been with me through the good, bad, and all other times of my life. My life would truly be different without the music and attitude of the Stones.
1) they proved those 60's ney-sayers wrong and yes they obviously could see themselves still rockin and rollin at 60, and beyond.
2) they are true to themselves, no other band has done it their way for so long with less of the typical rock band critisism, they seem to have ridden it out 'above the radar' in this case.
3) they don't play their songs true to the albums, we would be bored if they did and would have liitle to compare.
1) Keith telling the British magistrate when he (Keith) was under cross-examination about Marianne Faithfull dressed only in a rug after bathing following a cold walk on the beach in Sussex, "We are not old men. We do not subscribe to your morals."
2) Charlie saying, "F*ck no," when MISS Geraldo Rivera put the puny palm of his hand against Charlie's sternum on June 1st, 1975 between shows at LSU, and asked him for an interview.
3) The flatbed truck announcement of TOTA on May 1st, 1975.
"The wonder of Jimi Hendrix was that he could stand up at all he was so pumped full of drugs." Patsy, Patsy Stone
