Unbelievable how hot its gunna get in Seattle. Here in Northern CA it's been dry for the last 2 years and were back into a pretty bad drought. The weather has been locked into a mild pattern. It's nice, but it somehow feels stagnant.

Here in BC a number of temperature records are being broken. I honestly don't remember a day as hot as today and Sunday and Monday are supposed to get even hotter. It doesn't even cool down that much overnight. Thankfully it's supposed to return to normal the middle of next week.

Global warming (etc) - warmer planet with extreme heat in places where it's not normal, way more drought where there's usually drought, more rain where there's usually rain etc; less duration of cold, but still extreme (even record) cold events.

Extremes.

That's lost on what seems to be a LOT of people. And, of course, lack of context means everything to fit one's agenda of denial.

Not that admitting it (I've yet to figure out how pointing out deniers DOES anything except point them out - they're probably Flat Earthers/Chemtrailers so whatever) changes anything.

The bit about whoever flying on a plane to a conference about emissions - how else are they going to get there? It's not the individual, it's whatever industry that has to change. People serve their own idiotic self righteousness with their idiocy ie cherry picked lack of facts.

Airlines have been working on that. The US auto industry flew the middle finger at Trunt about letting up on gas mileage. There is a connected concern for doing better, it just doesn't happen like an app, as people have gotten to be more expectant of.

Well today in BC the small town of Lytton which is in the Fraser Canyon about 3 hours from Vancouver just recorded the hottest temperature ever in Canada at around 46 celsius or 115 fahrenheit! Many towns have broken records for this heatwave and tomorrow might be even warmer. Even in the far northern BC they're recording temperatures in the high 30s.
Its ironic that the forest fire danger is high but at the same time there's a few areas where there's flood alerts because so much snow is melting up in the mountains and rivers are overflowing their banks.

I read Walla Walla, WA (central part of state) hit 116 F. Unreal.

Well, one day after breaking a Canadian record that stood for 84 years, Lytton was even hotter today at 47.6 celsius. To put that in perspective, that's hotter than the all time record in Las Vegas at 47.2 celsius!! Records that were broken across BC yesterday were broken again today. All out fire ban starting tomorrow, not sure why they waited these extra few days. One good thing is that there hasn't been much for lightning strikes so it's good for the forest fire situation.

Yesterday, Lytton broke the Canadian record again at 49.6 celsius or 122 fahrenheit! Even up in the North West Territories near the Arctic circle it hit 38 celsius or 100 fahrenheit! Luckily for me today it's cooler as this heat dome moves east towards the interior and Alberta.

Again in the news: the heatwave around British Columbia. Temperature up to almost 50 C, people are dying because of the heat, communities open cooling shelters, wildfires destroying houses.

From BC into Alberta, between 3pm June 30 and 6am July 1 (Pacific Time), the North American Lightning Detection Network detected 710,117 total lightning events from the pyrocumulonimbus storms.

That's beyond whack.

Tropical Storm Elsa formed today, FIVE days earlier than the record setting Edouard on July 6, 2020. The previous record was 2005's Emily, July 11th.

Generally, the 5th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season forms at the end of August.

After 3 days of breaking the Canadian temperature record, tragedy struck Lytton. The whole town was wiped out by a wildfire yesterday. People literally had to run for their lives as winds spread the fire quickly. Emergency centers have been set up in a few different local towns. There is a forest fire near the town but it appears this one may have been started by sparks coming from the nearby train tracks. Several other towns in the BC interior are on evacuation alert.

Locals advised to go to a safe location from the fires.

What, the Pacific Ocean? Is anywhere safe when everything has been 120°?

Tropical Storm Elsa formed today.

It's now a Cat 1 hurricane. Wouldn't be surprised if it gets even stronger. And according to my son, "Elsa was totally named after the frozen character and could shut down Disney World in a week"

Shutting down Disney would be excellent.

What seemed to be shaping up into a mild summer in SF has turned into perhaps the coldest and foggiest I can remember since I've been here. The good thing is you don't have to drive too far south to find warm sunshine. Also, I've heard old timers who grew up in the city that this type of cold, damp summer is usually followed by a really rainy winter. I hope so, we can sure use it.

Horrible fires in the US and Canada. Just yesterday, big floods in China's province Henan.

Just a week ago, ist started raining around here where I live. And then it just wouldn't stop. It just rained heavily. Now, whole villages have dissapeared, we have about 170 deaths to mourn and still people are missed.

Fo instance, there where small rivers, little bachs, which would rise up to 3.60 meters when they show high water. Last week, however, by this example, the water rose up to 8.70 meters. Within just an hour or so. So this maybe gives you an idea, what was happening here then.

Still, many villages have no energy or communication, Drinking water has to be brought in by lorries.

Here's a YT from last Sunday - you maybe can guess or imagine, what has happend. But I'm sure, it's much worse than that. I chose that one, because it has english

Floods in Europe kill nearly 200 with over 1,000 still missing

Vancouver has now gone over 40 days with no rain! The old joke of in Vancouver you don't tan, you rust definitely doesn't apply right now. Supposed to get hot again this coming weekend. Lots of forest fires in BC right now, a crew of firefighters is coming from Australia.
