Eta to become a hurricane in the GOM in the Florida Straits. Since 1851 13 of them on the Gulf Coast, at least based on what I've found, and it is looking like Eta will become 14th if landfall happens on any of the Florida Keys (it has to be the center making landfall to count, technically).

I don't know how to post photos, but here in Crete, Greece, there is very heavy rain, with a lot of flooding, torrents pouring down off the mountains and waterfalls appearing out of nowhere.

Dramatic, impressive but rather scary, and potentially devastating for some.

Latest reports from Crete

It was a rare one Rockeeeee, don’t think there will be too many like it. Your Drumcondra Page-A-Day calendar won’t have any competition from me.

Eta throwing the models quite off until now and expected to fall apart thanks to wind shear and be classified Tropical Depression Eta at landfall near or on St George and Dog Islands just east of Apalachicola, FLA.

Meanwhile Tropical Storm Theta (the record 29th named storm, 50 days before the last storm of the 2005 season formed and formed 173 days into the 2020 season) spins for fish and the wave just west of the Antilles will probably become very likely soon become TS Iota (the third of the expected tropical cyclones to form in November and quite possibly the last of 2020) and models have it to plow into and dump on Honduras.

Tropical Storm Iota expected to become a record 12th major hurricane of the season and expected to take a similar path to Nicaragua and Honduras as Hurricane Eta did as well as dump up to possibly 30 inches of rain.

And!

Late next week... Tropical Storm Kappa is likely in the Caribbean.

Iota is going to be HORRENDOUS. Holy crap Nicaragua and Honduras are going to get - there's hardly gonna be anything left. Iota will be the worst hurricane of the season.

140 mph winds combined with the topography: the entire area of that region of the isthmus will be destroyed.

And then it's going into the Pacific...

Re: OT: Weather around the world

Iota has 160 mph winds! Only category 5 hurricane of the season. There has now been, for the first time in recorded history (since 1851), five hurricane seasons in a row (2016-2020) with a category 5 hurricane.

After a brief cool spell with the cool/cold temps coming down from Canada and Alaska, Southern California is experiencing a mini-heatwave w/temps at 85F at the coast.
Should get back to normal for this time of year over the next couple of days w/temps hovering in the '60's here on the Ventura coast, but for now almost seems like summer again...

12 to 18 foot storm surge expected from Iota - it will probably be higher considering the 160 mph winds.

There isn't much for Iota to destroy since Eta already destroyed it all but... Nicaragua and Honduras will be completely decimated "more so".
