You know, Rockman, I went to Google maps satellite view and I can see that pier jutting out into the water. Right near Esplanade street looks like. Is that the one? Beautiful view that gets better everytime you post it. That the view out your balcony or is it a public camera you know of? Its kool...

Hurricane has been getting sheared a lot. Now that it's moved north it may hold together better.

Here in Kingston, SW London today, it's been very pleasant and plenty of sunshine.
Been walking along the riverside up to Surbiton and then catching bus back to Epsom.
Gonna be a lot warmer towards end of the week, but the Pubs are open and nice to have a drink and a meal down by the riverside.
Cheers Everyone. smileys with beer

Hurricane season forecast now up to 24 expected storms that includes 12 hurricanes (so far there's been 2), so into the Greek alphabet by late October possibly (the already record 9 named storms are included in the total).

In a month the MJO will have fully moved into the Atlantic Basin.

That's when the hurricanes will really start to crank. There won't be much if any before that.

Yeah, hell, a high end category 3 is enough to not matter anymore.

The biggest problem where I live isn't the wind so much, it's the water. Decent storm in the right position and my most of my house will be under water. And it's not clean salt water, it's nasty nasty brackish water.

So if I lose everything then the hell with it. I won't bother replacing anything. I'll just start all over, maybe somewhere else, with nothing and keep it simple.

There's good reason the NHC and people involved are very concerned about the rest of hurricane season.

This is the busiest season in history so far.

People seem to think that because there haven't been any strong/big storms that it's not a big deal.

That's not what it's about.

There's a thing they use called the Accumulated Cyclone Energy and it's projected to be 100 days this year. I don't recall if that's a record but seeing that there's 3 months left and there's been 8 storms... they're generally spot on with their forecasts. So far a majority of the Atlantic Basin US coast has had a storm or has dealt with parts of a storm.

Andrew wasn't until mid-August in 1992. That happened after a quasi-el nino, which reduces hurricane development. This time in 1969 Camille was on its way to being a horrific storm. Those were not busy seasons... but they each had category 5 storms that made landfall in the US. Both happened before the peak of hurricane season, which is September 10th. All the of the strongest category 5 storms to hit the US occurred before September 10th.

La nina, which is what's happening now, promotes development.

Right now there is a lot of wind shear (strong westerlies) in the tropical Atlantic which is keeping tropical waves from developing. There's an average of 60 tropical waves during hurricane season. Warm water is moot when the winds are not favorable for storms to develop, otherwise there'd be tropical cyclones all the time somewhere.

All it takes is for one thing to change and it does that 1-7-25-89-156-340-698 kind of explosion.

September into October could be terrifying.

Some models show TD 11 will TS Josephine by tomorrow morning and most likely to be a fish storm. Some models have it looping around. Some have it riding low beneath the Bahamas.

Shrivenham, South West Oxfordshire, UK yesterday at 5. The extreme heatwave's over (thank ****) but I'm not keen on it being replaced by this! This freak wild storm tore a few tiles from my next door neighbour's roof, including a 3 foot section of ridge tiles.
