Warm and windy weather at the beach, with a couple of wildfires about to join forces apprx. 15 miles east/inland near where my sister lives.

Worse than anything right now though, the mass shooting up in Thousand Oaks about 30 miles from here....very close to home...thoughts to all the family and friends - very, very sad.

Smoke Pouring into the Bay Area from the Camp Fire about 200 MI north in what is left of the town of Paradise. I have family up there that all lost homes. The smoke from this fire is even worse than the Napa fire last year which was only about 40 miles away.

I just heard the entire town of Paradise no longer exists - everything burned to the ground - very sad.

As for here in Ventura County/L.A. area, what started as a couple of fair sized wildfires yesterday about 15 miles east of me, have exploded into massive fires throughout the area.
The fire in Thousand Oaks (google map - T.O.)- a valley like area about five miles from the beach but separated by the Santa Monica Mountain mountains, has crawled up and over the mountain range making it's way down to Malibu and surrounding beach communities - burning multi-million dollar homes. I'm apprx. 30 miles north of Malibu in Ventura, and looking south the entire sky is billowing with smoke. As of this minute, 0% containment, and the winds are not letting up. Took a few pics from my perspective earlier today - will post a few later.

I can't even wrap my brain around an entire town just being gone like that.

Safe and sound up here with 30 miles of separation, though it looks much closer.
Between here and Malibu there are hundreds of acres of agricultural fields, the city of Oxnard, the city of Port Hueneme (Y-neemy) and Naval Base, and then the start of the Santa Monica Mountain range where the fires are.
Here in Ventura, there was the massive fire last year, and hopefully we won't be experiencing that again ever ...(knock on wood).

Temporarily lost phone, internet, and cable service for apprx. 24 hours due to fires, but everything back up and running.

A California woman captured dramatic video as she drove through flames trying to flee the devastating Woolsey Fire in Malibu.

Rebecca Hacket said she feared for her life as she drove down Kanan Road on Friday. Hackett told ABC had just left White Cloud Ranch, where she keeps horses.

"I felt the strongest wind I ever felt in my life. The fire came so quickly. One minute it was calm and then suddenly they were on top of us, so we had to evacuate," she recalled.

I believe it was several times since the fire started, but things have seemed to settle down a bit for the time being.

I dunno, that's odd...I saw the beautiful pic of Bathtub Beach you posted yesterday, and when I came back to the thread to compliment, it was gone!

Pacific Ocean - the coast is mostly clear w/the Channels Islands visible out on the distant horizon.
