Over the past 20 hours, a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal has strengthened at an unprecedented rate, attaining proportions that mirror the 1999 Odisha Cyclone (officially, Cyclone 05 – a category 5 storm that prove the deadliest in India since 1971, and ranking in the top 25 storms of all time.

The Odisha storm peaked with wind-speeds of 160 mph (260 kmph), maintaining speeds of 155 mph (250 kmph) when it hit landfall on October 26, 1999, resulting in over 15,000 dead.

The current cyclone – named Phailin -- now building in the Bay of Bengal has exponentially increased to around 160 mph – an astounding escalation of 80 kmph in less than a day. Its dimensions are now approaching those of the 1999 storm.

High of 12C in Paris today; at least it's not raining.

High of 14 degrees in London no rain. The sky is overcast and gray.

Game 1: Wednesday 8:07 p.m. at Fenway Park in Boston
An area of low pressure moving well off the Northeast coast could bring a few showers to start the game. Overall, the impact should be low and no significant delays are expected. Otherwise, it will be cool with temperatures in the upper 40s at the first pitch, falling into the middle 40s during the game. Winds will be around 5 to 10 mph out of the northwest.

Although chilly, it won't be the coldest World Series game in history. That goes to Game 4 of the 1997 World Series in Cleveland. The temperature was 38 degrees when the Indians played the Marlins.


Game 2: Thursday 8:07 p.m. at Fenway Park in Boston
The threat of rain showers will be gone, but cool temperatures will remain.
Once again, we expect upper 40s at the first pitch, falling into the middle 40s during the game. Winds will be a bit more brisk than Game 1, blowing out of the northwest around 15 mph.

Leaves are falling off the trees. Still fall but soon winter will be here.
