Interesting, thanks.... reminds of a few years back whne one of the guitar magazines had a "design a guitar contest"... and the winner was this silly looking thing with 4-5 mini, multi-colored lava lamps mounted on the front.... I actually sent in an idea that was functional... but I guess they wanted show, not go.

I doubt there's any musical purpose behind it. It's a light, an LED light on the body of the guitar isn't going to change the sound in any way.
If you go to the Versoul site there is a story by the luthier of the blue light guitar where he basically says he was on an airplane and just had the idea for a blue light, and so he did it. So it sounds like it's just decoration.
Plus they have this picture on their site...

Ronnie Wood is using these guitars a lot on the tour. Currently Ronnie has got a total of nine Versoul Guitars.
In addition Keith has got three Versoul Custom guitars all acoustic 10 string models with black top finish.
