The Fallen Angels - Brown Sugar!

Ladies and Gentlemen!

After some days of recording our new cover song is finally out!
Our first two songs where are country song and a ballade, we thought it's time to show the world that we can rock!
You can hear the guitars very clearly I think, Kent plays a very sharp, almost perfect rythm guitar, I'm adding the nice licks the solo and some rythm during the verse.
Kent's vocal performance is great again, but unfortunately we had some computer problems so it's a bit out of time till the end.
There are also "percussions" but my neighbours already went crazy 'cause I played guitar the whole day, so I had to do them in a hurry and sometimes it's not quite right what I play....still, the song is pretty good, I think. I'm particularly satisfied with the guitars!

The song should be available soon on [www.rockpassion.com] !

Again, we kindly ask for your comments so we know what to do better and what sounds good!

Yep. Listen to Lorenz. It's a good cover I think. In fact it's our best since "Exile on Main Street". :-)

It's a shame with the computer problems. But just think of it as Mick Jagger singing it after snorting up ten lines of coke. The guitars are great just as Lorenz says. The best guitars we've done. Certainly the best since "Exile on Main Street".
ROFL.

I like your Brown Sugar!
What about a video (split screen)?

Hahahaha. That would be awesome no doubt. But as Lorenz is in Austria and I'm in Denmark it would be hard to do. Maybe we could do a promo-video when we meet up in Amsterdam during the next tour. Would be awesome.

Glad you like it by the way.

Good Keith guitar JKF but Lorenz was down in the mix so it was hard to hear him as well as you. All in all though a rockingly good effort! Keep 'em coming!

Hm, about my guitar - I heard from some people now already (also some friends I sent the song too) that my guitar is too low in the mix.
It's strange, because I can hear it very clear - but that's probably because I heard it very often already. Do you think the solo is too low too?

Hello guys!

Yep, it's all coming along nicely now. You've got the guitars and the tuning (open g) you've got the makeshift drums, you've got the singer (Kent).

You just need to fix that timing problem! I reckon the song would be TWICE as good if you could sync the vocals! There must be some way to do it?????

Any modern day computer should allow you to record 2 tracks at once through the soundcard, so with a decent sequencer you should be there!

I wonder if Flip the Switch will give up now that they've heard your version of Brown Sugar.....?

Ian.

I like the guitars, but the boom boom drums is a bit too tribal to me.

The thing with the vocals is: we both have a programm where you can record as many tracks (well about 100 or so) as you want, but Kent's computer is too slow, so everytime he records a new track it's a few fractions of a second behind. That's really annoying and I don't know how to fix that.
I don't have the time to cut and paste the vocal track until everything fits...

Well you should be able to do it in software - some sequencers will do it for you.

If the delay is always the same then it's easy - just cut off the front part.

If not, then cut the vocals up into lines or part lines and move them around in the sequencer. I reckon it will take you an hour or less and it's worth it! Do a piece at a time over a few days.

Which software are you using? See my email for a few bits of USEFUL INFO!

Regards,

Ian.

Thanks of all the help Ian!

I worked on the vocals again now instead of learning for my exams.
The result is good, the vocals fit now.
I'm gonna send the song now to Pascal to upload it.

Btw, I turned my guitar up now and removed the tribal drums...

Keep the drums in! Or redo them! Or do them again in the sequencer! You can't do Brown Sugar without them!

Just heard the new version - much better- the vocals fit. A very short delay on the vocals and a small bit of reverb will help here.

Lead guitar is too loud in the first section - before the vocals start, otherwise it's rockin' - but it still needs some drums.....

Guitar interplay is where it's at and you've got it going!

Ian.

Alright, I'll redo the drums - but I have to do that tomorrow or my neighbours go crazy.:-)
I'll keep that in mind with the delay and reverb on the vocals!
Thanks, mate!

Yeah a VERY short delay - it will fatten the vocals up and a bit of reverb will add a bit of depth - but just use a LITTLE of each - so that you can hardly tell!

As usual less is more!

Ian.

You guys now need to "write" and then "perform" a song the Stones could have written. It might be the closest we get to a new Stones song for a few more months.

In fact we have already talked about doing our own song. So maybe it will happen in the near future. But it's not gonna be our next song. That's "The Spider And The Fly", and the work on that starts tomorrow.

See if if can do a version like the one on Stripped - it's ideal for an acoustic version.

Yeah, it's gonna be a nice easy blues, I don't have time for more at the moment ;-)
Brown Sugar was really demanding and I'm still not entirely satisfied with result.
I'm gonna work on BS tomorrow, let's see if it gets better.

If you send me Spider and the Fly I could maybe put some harmonica on it for you....

1 suggestion: Get a sequencerprogram! With an allround sequencer and bank of good sounds, you will have nice drums and bass. Remember my version of Brown sugar Kent? All done some 20 years ago with a simple drummachine, a four channel porta, and a guitar. I detuned the guitar for the basspart as I did not have a bass around.

I suggest you use DC++ to download what you need, no money will have to be spent...or from a good torrentsite.

The problem is that I don't have enough RAM for my computer. It's at least 10+ years old. So it's a real sucker. If I didn't have internet I'd use it for a blow-job machine. That's how much it blows.

Great!

But send each track separately as a wav or mp3 file, then I can put it in a sequencer - I've got a million VST's I can use!

If you want drums you'll need to play to a click track to get the timing right...then you can add them later. It doesn't have to be too mechanical...

Ian.

I never played to a click track so I'm not sure I could do it properly. I never learned a single thing about rythm or anything. I just learned the basic chords and went on from there. And judging from Brown Sugar I ain't that bad.
:-)

Alright, I'll send you the tracks seperately in mp3 format.
But one of these tracks will contain both Kent's voice and his guitar.

I have some questions now:

1. What is a sequencer program - what is it good for?

2. What's the Antares Autotune? What can I do with it?

3. What program do I need to play bass&drums?

Thanks! :-)

I don't like click tracks either, but if you want to get a good result then you need some sort of percussion (brushes?) in there. You could play along to some drumming if you had a drummer I'm sure, so the next best thing is to have the computer play some drums for you. I reckon KR could do the drums on Fruityloops Studio, if he's D/L it by now.

Go for a better production on this song! It will take a little longer but keep it simple!

Regards,

Ian.
