Sorry if this has been posted already. Here's a link to a YouTube video which seems to be an excellent tutorial on how to play KR and MT guitar parts in the Brussels Affair masterpiece Midnight Rambler version.

Brussels 1973. Like I tend to say the greatest rock and roll recorded performance by anyone ever. My absolute favourite piece of music.

I witnessed the show in Foxbor the other night and MR was simply awesome. The interplay between Mick and Keith was like the old days. For me it was an epic performance. I saw the first Metlife show a week earlier and it was not played. The show somehow came off as incomplete without it. It is always the highlight of the show for me. I know some shows from 94 to 2007 didn't include it. When they came back for the Fifty and counting I believe it was played on every tour. Miss You paled in comparison even though the Metlife verison was prety good. They need to play Rambler it's so good live. Speaking of shows feeling incomplete this is the first tour I've seen without Brown Sugar but that's a whole other topic.....I must say I do miss the song in the set and find it less disturbing lyrically than Rambler.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but MR wasn't played at all on the B2B tour of 97 and 98.
Which is kinda strange as that song IMHO fitted the overall theme of the tour. Only The Stones can skip such an important tune and easily one of their best 3 songs ever and you still feel satisfied after the gig. It was amazing in 2014 but my favourite version was in Paris 2006 when Mick took us down to Loiusiana during the breakdown, I'll never forget that one, PURE MAGIC
As in 81-82 MR didn't show up. Are there any more examples of this "Warhorse omitted from a whole tour" except for the obvious three, Satisfaction between 73-78 (except Knebworth and 5 showings in '78) Sympathy in 81-82 and Brown Sugar since 2021? Granted, one could say PIB as well between 67-89 but it wasn't a warhorse a la Flash, Dice or Sympathy in the 70's.
I can't think of any right now

They only played MR a few times on the 94/95 tours (The Brixton version was surprisingly rusty). They didn't play it at all on the 78 tour.

It's good to not play every warhorse every tour. For me, 1989 and 2019, with 1989 being absolutely amazing, for Midnight Rambler.
Certain tours - 1978 is obvious why no MR, with, at the time, only 4-5 warhorses (and fortunately no Satisfaction). New album, fast paced songs, a country song... MR would not fit.
Similar with 1981-82.
If they left out Satisfaction, Miss You, IORR, SFTD, SMU, Gimme Shelter, YCAGWYW JJF and HTW and kept MR, and played a few other tunes, like Street Fighting Man, Shattered, All Down The Line, When The Whip Comes Down, Dancing With Mr D, threw in a few recent tunes, something daring like All The Way Down and Get Close, then maybe some usuals like Mixed Emotions etc...
Hell, I find myself skipping those warhorses when listening to the more recent live albums!!!
Weird, though, that Midnight Rambler is only on one regular live album. Fortunately it's on at least 7 official bootlegs.

Why are Hyde Park '13 and Havanna no regular live albums?

When you see Eagle, Promotone or Mercury Records, those are archival releases, even something new like HAVANA MOON or HYDE PARK LIVE, where as Polydor (some with with Interscope) is "current" in line with STILL LIFE, FLASHPOINT etc kind of regular live albums: overdubbing and editing was involved (except for HACKNEY DIAMONDS LIVE AT RACKET which is on Geffen).
Why something new like HM or HPL would be "archival" is unknown but maybe it's because of them being exclusive Google Music or iTunes releases digitally.
Why so many different labels? No idea. They're all owned by UMG except Promotone.

When you go strictly by label then El Mocambo is a "current" release and should be counted as an official live album AS it's released on Polydor. For me Hyde Park Live/Sweet Summer Sun (audio released under two different names) and Havanna Moon are official live albums because they were released soon after their recording.

Seems appropriate to quote this just next to the above link. What a tremendous performance. And if you listen to the different mixes (official and all the boots) it highlights different aspects of that performance as well.

I agree with 78 and 81/82. Still, imagine a MR version 1981. Wild, nasty, trashy...

I cannot follow the exact discussion here, or I overlook something, but I do remember that we had the entire Brussels concert like it is now on reel to reel tape around 1975 already.

That's the 1st show, with tracks from Wembley. The second show is the official release.

Brown Sugar, Midnight Rambler and Street Fighting Man are from the first show on the official release. The rest is from the second show.

Oh. Damn. Never noticed they played Satisfaction in 1978. Just looked, found three shows.
Ha ha yeah that was pretty bad. At least they got it over with!

Yeah 78 is nothing to brag about. Not a good time live for them.
