Horns in Detroit, 28-07-1975

Just got a new show from Detroit (28-07-1975). It's soundboard and sounds FANTASTIC. But There are HORNS used during this show! I know there was an (unknown) percussionist used during this gig, but horns? SFM sounds amazing with these extra horns. Maybe they used them only on this gig because they recorded the show? Maybe this is why there was an extra percussionist? Does anybody know why these horns were used in Detroit? Does anybody know if there were other shows with Horns in 1975. I never knew about it. Just listen to the Boot, it very, very good. (Thanks Jay)

Don't know about Detroit, but at the LA shows had Steve Madaio, Bobby Keys and Trevor Lawrence playing horns.

Yep, I forgot about the LA shows. But these also got recorded by the Stones, and also Sympathy was played (like NY). So there must be a connection.

It's called Detroit Rock City. It's exc. soundboard. And the Stones play very well. Even Sympathy comes out right, which in most other cases in L.A. and N.Y. didn't...... I put it way up on the 1975 list, together with the LA Forum show.

Sympathy wasn't played in Detroit, so your tape isn't from Detroit.

And, on the audience tape there are no horns. You probably have LA.

Plus the soundboard from Detroit is only the first 85 minutes - not the full show

sounds like LA to me, as well

A comment during the show that might help:

It must be a mixed show cause SFTD was only played in LA and NY (+LOndon). Is it really ex. soundboard? I doubt it.

Mathijs, you're right, no (audible) horns on the audience tape. Also Sympathy wasn't played during this gig (tho I do not recognize this version from before striaght away). But the remarks from Jagger as mentioned above state different. Maybe only Sympathy is from another show. The Stones did tape this concert! I'm still not 100% sure.

The original tape (mono Scool smiley was released first on Detroit Rock City on the very rare Stone Crazy label (expensive as hell). Later this release was copied to numerous releases, with Rock and Roll Goes on the Road Again the most well known. This release has 17 tracks from Detroit, all other tracks are from New York, June 27, 1975. There isn't really a quality difference between the mono SB and excellent audience tape.

I'll give both version another listen. And Stone Crazy is VERY expensive! I like Sc004 the best: Britisch tour 1973. (Birmingham)

The question is if it (Detroit Rock City) is a mono sound board/ex aud or ex soundboard?

Mathijs- If this is good mono, I can't wait to hear some of those ex ones!
While you're here, what are the best '75 boots in your opinion? Which Buffalo title is prefered too?

I should appologize to Potted Shrimp for not identifying this one as well as I could have. The sleeve on ilovemickjagger was so blurry my old eyes couldn't read it. Just going off the information from the trader I got it from. I really appreciate the knowledge here at IORR and enjoy learning more about the shows and boots. I guess I fu@#ed up a little but it's not the end of the world. :-) Yet...
