Which Stones's live song are the closest to the studio version?

Happily, Stones'songs sound live differently they were originally played in studio, something some other rock or pop groups don't achieve or don't want to achieve.

This particulary true for rock songs, but they are some exceptions. The one I have in mind is Monkey Man, which when performed live is very similar to the original Let It Bleed track.

This worth also for Dance, a "disco" song.

As for the RnB oldies performed during Licks Tour, the band surely matured and greyed in the voices and the embellishment of the songs. Yet, That's How Strong my Love stuck to the roots.

So far, my conclusion is : the less the guitars proportionally matter - if we can dare this image for RnB songs, by contrast with rock songs -, the closest they reach the original studio performance.

Dance is completely different on all my boots, no guitars - just some picking here and there...

Slipping Away is similar to the album version.

Dandelion, you must be right.

I had in mind the live version... heard itself live at the Olympia, not on the boots. At this very moment, it seemed close; but maybe it differs in fact.

So I strip "Dance" (which does not mean I do strip dancing)

When they did "Terrifying" in 89-90' that one sounded to me like the closest
one to the original i'd ever heard

SFTD has become an out-and-out embarrassment. I didn't mind the tape loops at first ('89) - but geezus - they've been using the same damned tape for 15 years now. Enough! If you can't come up anything else to keep the song aloat - then it's time to drop it entirely!

Unfortunately, the trend since '89 has been to try to mimic ALL studio renditions on the stage. The days of loosely-arranged live versions is sadly behind us.

I think Factory Girl from 89 came as close to the original as any.

The cool thing about The Stones is they have a distinct live sound. When you hear them you automatically know it is them even without Micks vocals.

Mick has a very festive, live vocal that fits it nicely as well.
