I don't think these links have been posted here before. Yes, Blondie really was a Beach Boy.

Here's a link to a gallery with several:

Blondie couldn't continue to work in South Africa because of his parent's ethnicity/race. Thats why he had to leave, via the UK, eventually the the US.

Remember how bad it was for non-100% white people in the depths of the apartheid days. It wasn't great in some parts of the US or UK either, because of bigoted people or the segregation stuff.

Quite an journey for Blondie - would make a great biography one day.

Blondie and Ricky Fataar appear on Carl & The Passions, Holland, and In Concert; all excellent albums by the Beach Boys.

I think one of the Love brothers sacked them, just prior to the boys becoming an oldies act.

Blondie's a great musician. And btw. Sail on Sailor and Marcella (both with him) have always been Beach Boys favourites to me.

How come the Stones dropped Blondie for the Grrr tour?

Keith didn't need him?

He has a great alto voice like Bernard.

Are you sure it wasn't his fellow South African and former Flame bandmate, Ricky Fataar? He was Bonnie Raitt's drummer when she opened for the Stones on the last tour.

I didn't know for years that Blondie was lead vocal on Sail on Sailor. The subject matter of the song, everything about it pointed to it being Brian. It's a very strange happenstance.

Brian did write the song and sang it live in the most recent tour.

Blondie played guitar and some bass with the Beach Boys - he left in late 1973.

Ricky played drums, pedal steel, and some rhythm guitar - he left in late 1974.

Ricky was also "Stig" in The Rutles!

I see that they included it on the controversial DVD of their 50th Anniversary Concerts DVD. They also include the other Blondie vocal, Marcella. (I just listened to the Carl and the Passions album version on YouTube. That really has that 'HOlland' sound. It sounds more like a Carl vocal.

Carl sings lead on the verses on Marcella.
