For me the last great Stones album as a creative force was UNDERCOVER.

Guess things just haven't been the same since the cocaine-up-the-bum era drew to a close.

So it's Some Girls, Tattoo You and Undercover...

Cheers.

I love EVERY Stones album actually.

Even A Bigger Bang, loud.

@#$%& the beatles.

IMO, you can't love both.

Yer a Cheater if you do do do...

Get off the fence now, it's creasin' yo butt...

Some Girls Bonus CD.

thumbs up

If there must be one filler on this bonus CD it's the last track (Petrol Blues) and it would be a funny one. All other tracks are really good and actually could stand by their own. Plus the album flow is very good. Also Jagger's singing (and lyrics) is excellent from start to finish. I wish they had released this as a stand alone album instead of a companion to the unnecessary reissue of Some Girls.

Heaven was filler and lots of Undercover was filler

So it's Some Girls?

Yeah for me...I can't think of any filler on that one can you?

When the Whip Comes Down, Lies, Respectable, and the 2nd most over-rated Stones song in history - Shattered. Honourable mention to Everything is Turning to Gold - a throwaway.

Thanks for reminding me of Petrol Blues.

Must listen right now.

Petrol Gang is the title on some bootlegs. Petrol Blues is the name used on Some Girls reissue. It's a fine track but a bit weak when compared to others on the same album.

By "rocking harder" do you mean much slower and much less weaving?

A Bigger Bang. Yeah - it gets trashed here a lot but I still maintain that if it were released in the seventies it would be almost as revered as Exile.

If the music on it wasn't compressed and brickwalled as hell it would be much revered.

I do respect your point on that..but to my ears it sounds pretty damn good anyway.

Last truly great album was Sticky Fingers.

Exile is overrated like Mick has said.

Some Girls is a mix of Disco, and semi Punk, and even a Country joke and it just seems to be a copy of the trends that were floating around at the time.

The 80s and 90s albums etc are pretty standard with no real greatness about them.

Yer entitled to yer opinion but Sticky Fingers was a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

Some Girls was not country...

No real greatness about the Stones???

I'm so sorry to hear that my brother...

A Bigger Bang. Before that Bridges to Babylon. Seriously.

Before they're mostly all great - Steel Wheels sticks out as a sore exception.

"Far Away Eyes" is the country joke.

Yes, no real greatness from the Stones post Sticky Fingers.

I mean really, Miss You is just a Disco thing done by a Rock band as was I Was Made For Lovin You by Kiss, and When The Whip Comes Down and Shattered and Respectable are just semi Punk throwaways.

Beast Of Burden would be the best out of the bunch.

Clean yer ears out then. TATTOO YOU is killer and rocking as it is swagger. A BIGGER BANG is just too loud. Had it been dealt with properly it may stand up better but the songs don't exactly lend themselves to the standard of anything from BLACK AND BLUE through UNDERCOVER.

I would have to say Undercover not so much for the songs themselves, but because of how they played them. That was their last tour (1981-1982) as a stripped-down basic rock unit, and fresh off that tour they went in to the studio for what was effectively the Emotional Rescue follow-up. The lean and mean Stones outfit dove into this album with Keith Richards still the main musical driving force (for the last time) and with Mick Jagger still intent on shocking the mainstream with his songwriting (Too Much Blood and the hoopla over the video). It was the last time The Stones truly approached their craft with a sense of danger and edge (perhaps not coincidentally, it was also the last album they recorded while they were still in their 30s). Note also how the closing song bears an uncanny resemblance in the main rhythm riff to Soul Survivor, the closing track from Exile.
