Beck is still a good guitar player today. And he would fit in with the Stones I think. So it could be a good possibility.

Well I think it's the same question about Eric Clapton..
They are both solo musicians.

I don't know much about Beck (sorry) but it's interesting how they evolved using the whole cast of guitar players and mixing in Ollie Brown and Billy Preston. With John and Harwood producing this was followed later by the great Ronnie influence and TTOTA. What's Ollie Brown doing now? It'd be cool to get those guys back up there! How's Billy Preston? Is he still playing music?

Kent,

TTOTA, you should know that! You're an authority on the stones!

That's good news, thank you philly.

How about bringing them back?
Even for just a couple of songs maybe.
I bet they'd both jump at the chance.
I mean, who wouldn't? :-)

Or what about Rory Galagher, from what I remember there was some mentioning in the newspapers back in around 74 75 that Rory was a serious candidate.

Hardly ever heard of him since.

Rory Gallagher is great. I heard a CD with a band called Taste. Gallagher was in it I think. And that was very good music. Very Stones, but more bluesy.

You're right about the first bit, but completely delusional if you think he'd fit in with the Stones. with his ego he wouldnt have lasted six months .

He was supposed to be Mick's lead guitarist on his '88 solo tour, but walked out over money.

If Beck had joined the Stones, they'd have fallen apart.

Beck walked out of the black and blue sessions shaking his head that the band
can,t JAM.BTW Beck's tone is terrible IMO

Keith and Jeff weren't talking for years. Even today, Keith doesn't like the guy - would never have lasted either. He's just the opposite of what Keith looks for in a good guitar player.

Agree on Beck's tone. He's a loner when it comes to sound and judgement as a guitar player. But he is technically brilliant, no doubt about it.

RORY GALLAGER would of been the perfect fit he would of kicked started the band
and kicked Keith in the ass so keith could keep up with him if that ever happend.

Jeff actually loved Vanilla Fudge. Great guitarist, not a good band person - or he could have been Led Zeppelin. Wood, Stewart, Hopkins, Waller all hated working w/ him or were fired/rehired/quit numerous times. Also I read that Jeff left a note for Mick,(after B & B session/audition) "Call me when you get a good rhythm section." Like Bogert & Appice, I suppose.

Beck didn't even last as long as the first gig on Mick's solo tour in '88 (apparently getting in a huff over one of Mick's practical jokes and/or disagreeing about the material to be played) so it seems unlikely he'd have the requisite temperament or staying power.

I read that Beck was angry over his salary. He said it was a very petty handful of cash he got. So he quit. That tour sucked anyway.

Galagher played with the Stones in Rotterdam (1975) during the guitarist auditions. So he tried out for the job.

As far as Beck is concerned: There was some tention between Jagger and Beck while they worked on Mick's first solo album in Hilversum. Beck played a briljant solo for a song (don't know witch one....). Jagger joked to the engineer: This is rubbish, errase it! He did this to freak Beck out. When he finally calmed Jeff a bit (telling him it was a joke), it was to late. The engineer really errase the solo! Jeff Beck went nuts and left the session!
You can also hear Keith an Ron make fun of Beck on the voodoo rehearsal cds. I think this goes back to the Beck try outs (also in Rotterdam 1975). Beck said that Bill and Charlie coulnd't funck it up (on I love Ladies). The Stones said that Beck couln't Rock it up............. They were already fighting before he even joined!!!
