Never! They need their tour rehearsals bad......Imagine someone shouting: 'Could you please play Sway?' or 'What about Winter'? It would be a nightmare........

the Stones arent a band who tend to be able to wing it and play improvised or barely rehearsed songs.

Unlike say, the E Street Band, who deviate from the setlist a lot and who Springsteen will sometimes throw a curve ball to by suddenly calling out a song they maybe havent played or rehearsed in months or at all on the current tour.

Dunno about that, Marc - I guess thats one way of looking at it. I think they just play it safe too much, you'd think they be able to play some of these songs in their sleep by now

I'm surprised the technical experts have not commented. I'm not one of them, but wouldn't their be some frantic logistics issues trying to get the right instruments in peoples' hands and the right microphones on, etc?

If they did it on a small stage with just the Stones and some acoustic instruments that would be cool. It would be like a recording session where the song was first being introduced to the band, and they could wing it as they go.

This would be impossible for one simple reason: only Mick, Charlie and Keith are there from the early days. One thing is to play standard blues (all you have to do is give the key) another is to play structured songs. If the band doesn't know the song, then it can't play it.

No they don't! Did you ever hear them on some tour rehearsals?

sure they could do it if they cheated a little. all they would have to do is to rehearse 35 to 45 tunes and when the right request got called in ,that caller would be patched into the show. i sure it's been done before.

Depends on the request I'd say, liddas is right, they can't play songs where they don't know the chord progression or the lyrics. The wrote such a huge amoung of songs, it would be a miracle if they could play all of them without rehearsing.

thats my point! I was agreeing with bassaleman who said they could do it if they 'cheated a litle'!

If you are talking about something like A&E's "Live By Request" TV show - those are rigged. The Bowie one from 2002 pretty much mirrored his actual setlist only in a different order. WOULD they do it? I don't think A&E could afford them.

I dont want to ruin it for anyone but remember the Bridges to Babylon tour when you could pick a song that they would play via internet? well it was all pre arranged before hand. It was interesting, but set up and planned all before the show. Sorry.

It was??? I didn't know that. They sure did a good job doing it then. I checked the voting site almost daily back then and it seemed to evolve quite naturally.

they could pass the hat before the show and all fans in attendance could submit one song to be played--then the band would have 55,000 choices to look thru--is that a great idea or what??.......of course the gig would last about four days becuase of all that reading...and if mick forgot his reading glasses...uh-oh...

All I can add is the one time I saw them do the BtoB computer pick, it was Under MY Thumb and they had to shut it down midsong due to technical problems getting the keyboard volume correct. Probably the most unprofetional embarasing thing I have ever seen a band do.....wow a whole show?

I did go see a guy in a bar once that could play 32 bars of anything, played everything the croud yelled out all night long, but just the first 32 bars then it would fall apart. It does not make for a very satisfying evening and probably worse at 30,000 watts.

If Mick had a lyric sheet he could do it but Keith would be the problem....Ronnie too come to think of it. I guess it would depend on Charlie and Mick and Daryl Jones to carry the ball! And so what if it turned out a bit sloppy! Look at the Dead and Bob Dylan! Certainly the Stones could outplay them! I say, let them give it a try and you nay-sayers would be pleasantly surprised!

I don't understand what you think is rigged about the cyber vote on BtoB tour. The list of songs you could choose from are all rehearsed. They closed the voting somewhere in the afternoon when the set list is made so that they know what song it would be. Then they can rehearse it one more time during the sounscheck if they wanted to. What is rigged about that?

Cheers,
Wuudy
