The Stones 2012 London setlist discussion

----Intro: Sympathy For The Devil
01. I Wanna Be Your Man
02. Get Of Off My Cloud
03. It's All Over Now
04. Paint It Black
05. Gimme Shelter (with Mary J. Blige)
06. Wild Horses
07. All Down The Line
08. Going Down (with Jeff Beck)
09. Out Of Control
10. One More Shot
11. Doom And Gloom
12. It's Only Rock 'n' Roll (But I Like It) (with Bill Wyman)
13. Honky Tonk Woman (with Bill Wyman)
----Band Introductions
14. Before They Make Me Run
15. Happy
16. Midnight Rambler (with Mick Taylor)
17. Miss You
18. Start Me Up
19. Tumbling Dice
20. Brown Sugar
21. Sympathy For The Devil

----Encore:
22. You Can't Always Get What You Want (with London Youth Choir)
23. Jumping Jack Flash

In all honesty, guest appearances aside, the first 11 songs were interesting although not totally unexpected. 12 thru 23 was a run for the bus. Out of five stars I would give it a 3.

It's not a club, man. Without 12-23 the 1.000 pound tourists would not be too happy I asure you.

in terms of originality? i say a two - wanna be your man is great - but's it's like a two minute song requiring very little in terms of chops - this show was way more about gut emotion it seems than set list - that said - for the money - i'd have wanted some more twists and turns

Yeah I know what you mean about the last 12 numbers = trip around the block and back home. Still I would give it 5 because they have the bollocks to stare us down & ask the question ' WHO ELSE HAS THE BALLS TO DO WHAT WE DO'

And let the bitching begin!!! Oh, er, it already has.
I like the rundown on the setlist over in the topic on the show tonight.
A few more original choices than usual, methinks.

hb, are you going in Newark or Brooklyn?

I'm impressed by the fact that they did 23 songs including Out Of Control and Midnight Rambler. And they didn't do Satisfaction. Now that's a surprise.

I was trying to be generous. But I totally agree. Paul McCartney can crank out close to 30 songs without missing a beat. The Stones have so many short numbers that they could have fit in. Not just in the beginning either. It is just too scripted.

Once again: The missing wall of horns makes a completely new setlist.

Has anyone commented on the song tempos? I'm curious if they were slowed way down and had the click track stuff going.

But as for the setlist..no too much blood and no 20 flight rock? BOOO!

Only a few pre-68 songs..No Lady Jane... i was hopping that they will play, since they rehearsed in Paris.

You can't judge a show based on the set list...

Looks more than solid to me. You also have to factor in, the vast MAJORITY of people attending gigs don't want obscure album tracks, they want to hear the so called 'classics' and have a good nights entertainment

It doesn't matter what a few hundred of us would prefer. You have to cater for the majority

Exactly. Four songs that were played rarely or not at all on the last few tours: It's All Over Now, I Wanna Be Your Man, Out Of Control, Going Down. Three familiar but hardly overplayed gems: Get Off My Cloud, Paint It Black, All Down The Line. Two new songs. The always-welcome Midnight Rambler (with Mick Taylor!). No Satisfaction. 23 songs total. A very good setlist in my opinion.

No surprises in the setlist but lots in the show. It seems they didn't want to take risks, too many warhorses imho. Nevertheless, I think it was a great setlist to anyone but a hardcore fan (unless you've been there) winking smiley

A big bravo for no You Got Me Rocking!

Although they'll probably add that and drop Out Of Control on Thursday. Mind you, either would make a suitable piss break

Yes, I'm excited about the absence of the large horn section as well. Can't wait to see the pay per view!

Yes, thank god for no You Got Me Rocking. Why they play that so many times and Out of Control and others from that period so little is beyond me. Let's hope it's gone for good.

I'm guessing they had to cut it due to running late

The venue wouldn't want thousands of people stranded outside after the tube station shuts

Yes.

It's because of the London Zombies.
