Am I the only one that thought Taylor on Midnight Rambler to be a bit messy?

At times yes. It's a great video but I'm sure it sounded better in person. There are so many intricate little parts and moods in this song and it seems Taylor forgot most of them. There are several little sections in this song and Taylor sort of treats it as just one big song.

If they went to all this trouble to get so many parts of this show down perfectly, I'm hoping Jagger can actually make them rehearse Rambler a few more times before the next gig.

It's bloody fantastic! We now have to get used to a new Taylor -prowling the stage instead of not moving at all! It is indeed a bit messy, but I guess much of that is due to the poor video sound. I must say that I find all guitars sound quite spikey though, something I understand was present during the rehearsals as well.

Mathijs

Yeah it was pretty great seeing Taylor move around the stage like that. Took him long enough to get out of his shell!

The guitars do indeed come through with some teeth but it was hard to find the subtle moments in the song. It's nothing a few more run throughs won't fix. Taylor just needs to step back a bit during a few key sections like during the "Don't do that!" part. Plus, he needs to tone down the solo just slightly during the major tempo change going from the verses into the middle section. He solos over it using the verse tempo that it makes it difficult to distinguish the change into the new section. It's a few nitpicky things but these were all the elements that made this song work (even without Taylor).

Very cool! MT claims a little too much space here, maybe, but who can blame him after so many years, and most of his playing is great! Nice to see both Ronnie and Keith letting Mick T shine here.

Glad someone else noticed too. Perhaps it was the mix on the video but I was straining to hear some of that Keith/Charlie pocket that still makes this song great. I couldn't find it. Hopefully by the time they do the PPV, it will even out. At the moment, I can't really say that it's the best ever MR they've ever done.

It's also funny how MT turns to the guitartech right after Keith starts off the main riff and signalises to him to turn up the amp! grinning smiley

That is a printed set list with songs they INTENDED to do. The lest was done several hours BEFORE the show. They did NOT play Lady Jane, and they did NOT play Satisfaction. See the real set list here:

All cities have a curfew. The Stones could have started 8:15pm but they did not get the show on until 8.25 or so. The doors opened 10 minutes late. I don't know if everybody was in the house, if they waited for queues to get inside, or if they simply wanted to build up the excitement. Nevertheless, at a given time they must sign off, otherwise someone will unplug the show!

I guess it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback but since they started the show late maybe they should have anticipated a time crunch and dropped another song early on so they would have enough time for Satisfaction at the end?

Regardless, I'm sure it was a great show anyway.

Well that was MR with MT in 2012! Yes, I did like it, and I mean mainly watching a former member really having a great time on stage with nowadays Stones. He is moving around, soloeing all over the song, getting close to Mick, Keith, Ronnie, then back on his own, and once again returning to them as if remembering what is he really doing on that stage! If he overdid with some things here and there, well no problem with me! I'm just glad that they brought him on stage and I'm equally glad that he accepted!
