They played way above my expectations.

mine too....although, in fairness, i believe my expectations were way below yours.

So; how much one appreciate a Rolling Stones show is basically depending on what expectations one have....
How low were your expectations on a scale -10 to +10 ? Do you think other people with higher expectations than you will lower their real expectations when actually attending a show because they know that it will make them able to praise the concert and still having an interest in the band, instead of having to modify their future expectations into the negative scale, and therefor just has to find a new hobby?

God.. no... maths!!!!

The answer is... a dogs tool.

That's a lot of comments to go through. All I want to know is which songs they performed.

They didn't perform Fortune Teller.

I hope that helps in a "process of elimination" kind of way.

Hi all,
I'm glad to join the forum!

I was part of the lucky ones who were able to go without a ticket trabendo just before the concert!
1h15 de show incroyable.

Welcome, bienvenue !

Great that you could come in like this! Based on what I saw when I got in, i.e. not that many people in the queue, I wonder if they didn't actually let in everybody that was waiting in line without a ticket? I'm wondering though, why were you queuing up if you didn't have a ticket?

Hello all, as a disgruntled stones fan i enjoy this forum and reading people's opinions&reviews. I too see chuck leavell as the antichrist, and the horn section makes me want to vomit with considerable force.

Why i'm posting is that i'm not buying that keith was drunk on the 2007 tour & that's why he sucked. I still enjoy the stones for the cringe factor on youtube. What's the most alarming to me is how much keith and ronnie omit these days. Integral guitar parts& intros just implied rather than played. It's strange to watch. Along with the songs all slowing down. Anyway, i know i'm not covering new ground. Can't wait for more footage of these shows on the youtube. Nice forum you have here.

back in the cave troll

why such a nasty reply? Cave? Troll? The guy was just giving his opinion. Wow real "cool"

He's got a point. Ronnie's lead in Shattered has been the same now since the Bang tour and now the Paris show - he plays the first lead and then the next stanza does the riffs, both times around. What happened to playing the entire lead? Same thing as what's on SAL.

I feel like there is a lot of expectations in the air. Like we all look forward to see them for real, for the first time in 5 years. Like the day before Christmas, or half an hour before they go on stage. All Stones fans are like this now. People talk to us and ask us things and all that is on our mind is not the usual things but the soon to come Stone show.

I came for the atmosphere, to see the Stones and with the secret hope that some tickets will be available for sale.
Upon leaving, an organizer with a big smile told us something like "you see everything is possible" and we all ran to the entrance :-)

@riverat - this pic is now my phone's lock/background screen, reminds me I was really there ;-)

Gotdablouse--You are sssOOO lucky to have been able to go to the Stones' 50th Anniversary Club Show with just the small band without all the extras in a small, intimate environment, like when they started out! And the first time they played out in 5 years. That is every Stones' fan's dream come true. You must be on an adrenaline high still. You should always keep that pic as your background screen!

And to everyone else who calls themselves a "fan" who has the balls to diss the Stones, you need to listen closer to the lyrics of IORR, 'cause you still obviously just don't get it and you should be banned from all shows except for their F OFF Tour. Those tickets are for free.spinning smiley sticking its tongue out Some people just can't be pleased. Try appreciation and gratitude for a change. I'm thankful they all survived the 1970's, are still ALIVE and kicking, around AGE 70 themselves, and still writing and playing, and above all, still TOGETHER! Most bands can't keep it together due to their personal battles. Thanks to Mick and Keith for laying down bitterness and pride and picking up forgiveness and humility. WE are the beneficiaries of that. They're ok financially. They don't need us as much as you think. They're doing 2 clubs, 4 arenas w/ 1 on PPV, and hopefully a stadium tour after, God willing. That's what everyone here has been asking for. So, THANK YOU ROLLING STONES! You're awesome! smiling bouncing smiley

Yeah now that I think of it entering the club with four other people inside and the stage all set up and with an hour to go was really like seeing these lights in the christmas tree through a frosted glass door all those years ago...except you're not a kid anymore so your mind "freezes" up, there's no other way to describe it really. You know the best is yet to come and you know it will be over quickly and it likely will never happen again. Before the concert started we were like "how will we be able to go to another Stones concert after that...should we go to the O2?...now that the "high" is eroding, hell yes, I want to be back in that pit a few metres away from Mick and the Boys !

Yeah it's nice to have it but it "hurts" too, a magic moment that's gone forever. That whole day was absolute madness, the rush to get to the Virgin, cancelling everything else to make it to the Trabendo in good time, the stress of the wait that this picture from Le Monde shows pretty well :

Time going by quickly, then coming to a halt, night falling, the crush, and then we're in...

He's just doing the studio version now, which is what they try to do nowadays. I agree it was better when he soloed the whole thing though.

At the end of the day so what. I sincerely believe you guys would vote to slaughter your grandmother if she failed to make the Yorkshire pudding like she did for Boxing Day in 1967. I can hear rants of kill the bitch echoing from the dining room.

It has been a great run; I don't understand why everyone wouldn't appreciate the opportunity of seeing them one more time. We all know we are not going to see a young Keith Richards solo on SFTD like the one in the urban jungle video. But at least he is there.

I will agree the ticket prices’ have placed a bad glow over this entire show. I believe from the majority of the posts this type thing was to be expected. I really don't think the talent actually has a much control over that as some of you might believe.

One more observation of the Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor issue. I keep hearing the "Only if" crowed almost beg to see these two reunion. But what if they play badly. Miss a chord or note, maybe can't follow Chucks tempo count in. I can here you guys now. “Worst performance in the history of the world. The sound and playing not what it was when they were 26.”No shit folks.

I plane to be at the NJ Saturday show. If I have to lurk around the venue the night of the show, then so be it. Give them a break, unless you have already chopped up your Grandparents.

It is what it is and I say thank you for the opportunity.

Come on Dandy: this is poor quality! Don't be selective deaf.

I wonder why a newbee on this board calls me selctive deaf because I like something? Really?

Musically and historically I know more about the Stones than most people I know of, and I´ve proven that. I don´t need anybody to tell me what I think should be good or not when it comes to the Stones.

I´ve heard ridiculous trainwrecks of JJF from all eras; 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979(!), 1981, 1982, 1989, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007 before this version - that we heard a one minute clip from at the end of the show.

If I like what I hear (and see), it is because I´m really impressed by the magic this bunch of 70 year olds still can create, although in smaller doses than before.

If you or other guys here only judge the Stones from how good the guitar solos are, I´m vowed by your short term memory. There is no guitar solo on the original JJF-version, and it stands as a rock among popular music recordings of all time. Think of that - just for a second.

A bunch of 70 year olds (that IS what they should be judged by anyway) playing our favourite music (that´s why we post here, right?), maybe with some former band members guesting later on - what more can we ask for?

I'd echo those sentiments exactly.
(..although I've only been witnessing JJF trainwrecks since 73...]

I loved it, was so cool to hear JJF without all of the back up signers for the first time in decades!

I love it, too. It kind of reminds me of this one:

It seems some fans in Germany wanted to get to the Paris concert really badly. When they couldn't get tickets to a flight from Bremen to Paris they just sneaked by security ...

When they got caught on the tarmac they said they wanted to buy tickets from the pilot ...

The whole story (in German):

Yep he plays the main riff on his "Don't Stop" Telecaster in Open G with no 6th string on the 10th/7th frets and the solo as well.

@wolfi - amazing story ! Tthe guy behdind me told me he'd driven from Munich once he found out from a friend that he'd get an extra ticket, 10 hours...

I don't think it's been mentioned before but I just remembered that Mick tossed some water from a small bottle at us towards the end, guess he could sense things were heating up in the pit ;-) We could have used a bucket actually, like those he threw at the crowds back in the day.

It seems to me, although appreciative of videos posted of Paris, the sound is somewhat trebly unlike how they would normally sound in presence. Of course, sound was cpatured by Telephony. However, Band seems tight at this point, and will improve as tour chugs along. I wonder if they wil have a big Gorilla on the side of stage just as the fire breathing snake was presented during the VooDoo Lounge tour?

I wonder if they wil have a big Gorilla on the side of stage just as the fire breathing snake was presented during the VooDoo Lounge tour?

No, they'll just hand out Gorilla suits to the entire audience...

The band can probably at the moment be compared to a world class soccer team during pre-season friendlies. They are in the process of getting their act together.

Possibly imperfect. Anyway, almost always to me the Rolling Stones have meant the perfection of the imperfect. More impressive at that than whatever group that is immediately perfect on the surface.

On repeated listenings, to me it is one quality more than anything that comes over: The magic is there! That ecstatic element, hidden in the fabric of their music, can you feel it?
