OT: The Cure

Any other Cure fans here? Currently they're tearing it up on the European tour. Lots of new material & they are doing almost 3 hour shows. The new stuff sounds great, hopefully the record will be out soon. Also, yesterday they released a 30th anniversary remaster of "Wish" that sounds magnificent. It's like a whole new record. I hope they tour the US in the spring.

I have their Greatest Hits. I do like many of their more ‘well-known’ songs, but haven’t explored them further, admittedly. I do think Robert Smith is a terrific frontman. Friday, I’m in Love, In Between Days, etc. They’re all terrific. I really should explore their discography. I know they’re on of ours - the U.K.’s - very finest.

Here's where to start:
1. Disintegration
2. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
3. Wish
These would be a good place to start.

Saw the Wish tour and was absolutely blown away. I prefer their guitar heavy records for sure.

The Cure enthusiast here!

Robert Smith was moderating the listening party on Twitter yesterday when the anniversary edition of"Wish" was released. I had no idea what the "listening party" meant at first but it was a nice evening. I'll buy the standard 2LP edition of "Wish". Not a fan of picture discs tbh. Although I have "Faith" picture disc from the previous edition of RSD.

I can't wait for their shows in London! I'm going to attend on Monday and Tuesdaygrinning smiley I attended their gig in Poland this year and in 2016 and I was left completely speechless.

Hard to choose the best record but "Disintegration" must be the one (for me at least) and right after "Pornography".

The last album I bought was MIXED UP.

DISENTIGRATION is excellent, though.

I have the Greatest Hits version that also comes w/ the bonus acoustic disc. It's pretty good overall. Lovesong, Friday, Close To Me ... nice tunes. But I actually began to explore their discography more and couldn't get into them, the greatest hits I think is good enough.

One of my favourite concerts was The Cure in New Zealand some years ago.Robert Smith sang his heart out, really interacting with the fans in front. Very moving to see that.

Favourite album - Seventeen Seconds

to bring everything neatly together...

the latest cowboy junkies album, 'songs of the recollection', is a covers record, featuring takes on both 'no expectations' AND the cure's 'seventeen seconds'

along with uniquely junkified tilts at bowie, neil and gram

cowboy junkies - no expectations

cowboy junkies - seventeen seconds

Glad you got to see them. I hope they play North America in the spring. The setlists have been good & the new material is excellent. Hopefully we'll have the new record soon.

I used to hear them a lot in the 90s and went to some shows. I have some realy nice memories. They used to be a great band and probably still are.

Reeves Gabrels joining the band definitely brought some new life. He's a fantastic guitar player. I've been a fan since the first Tin Machine record & love his other work with Bowie in the 90s.

They are. Absolutely. In particular, a number of current reports point out Robert Smith sings better than ever. I agree.

Porl Thompson was a good guitarist. Reeves Gabrels is in a league of his own. His colourful playing adds a lot to the sounds.

Reeves & his wife are really good people, super nice. My friend had a heart transplant & they were very supportive. I'm on the Cure Community fan forum quite a bit. Good fan site, on a par with this one.

Five-star Glasgow review from The Guardian:

“At two-and-a-half hours in length” — I checked the time on my wristwatch on site; lights out at 20:11, lights on at 23:00. Most likely they played for 2 hours and 45 minutes-plus.

Remember falling in love with the Cure when A Forest was released, very early 80s

The direction the band took in the following albums never really convinced me

I can see where you are coming from.

Likewise, some Joy Division fans don’t accept New Order.
