Mick Jagger trying to sound to The Stones. This is a painfull song that could be cut by any average hard rock band. Stones are a memory. Richards is no longer able to add is touch and Jagger can only use some formula that has nothing to do with what made The Stones the best ones. They are still the best for me but sadly they cant give any value today.

Am really enjoying it, must have had it on ten or 12 times since yesterday, and love the riff - that strutting, danceable riff is sounding better each time I hear it
I am hearing the 'Radio Edit' I presume (the Lyric Video on YouTube) - I haven't downloaded from itunes; is the itunes version much different?? Some here are saying you can hear Charlie much clearer, and the guitars are a little louder?
Itunes version better than Radio Edit?

OK, I listened to it some more and I like it better. Still sounds more like a solo Jagger track than a Stones song to me though.

Welcome...now, just take this dixie cup, sit down, take a sip and lie back.
I didn't say I was ready to dring the Kool Aid, treacle. But if you catch me saying this is the greatest thing sice "Start Me Up" you'll know all is lost.
You'd actually have to say 'this is the greatest thing since Exile' for you to be completely lost, technically.
I'll go out on a limb and say it's the greatest thing since the last middling, formulaic Stones release.

I really dont see why people get wound up and over-analytical about the dynamics over who is too prominent and who isnt heard loudly enough.

I could definitely see them start shows with Doom and Gloom. Lots of room for expansion when played live.

That would be great.

Gazza I completely disagree with your Machiavellian remark
and the end you end with that it is an enjoyable song is of course respectable opinion
it is not to me, though i agree that it is 10 times better Dont stop and have some good if not digged potential, and has funny lyrics
Anyway "ZZ Top" meets "late boom-boom-boom stadium-ola U2" is not the joy I look for in a Stones song
but, right, there's so much no "stonesy" music in their catalog...
As someone else has said, Doom & Gloom family tree roots back in stuff like Hold on to your hat, Fight, Oh no not you again and of course mick's solo work rockers..
That is its genetics, respectable but its limits are, imo, patent
Means give shape to the end, so, as your summary of mick and keith creative method for the band explains, beauty can still happen but it is not very likely nor has been attained very often
look forward to the next new song )

This new song is no Streets Of Love (a classic imo) but it is good.

There wasn't much collaboration on 'Some Girls' for example. That turned out pretty good. Likewise with stuff like 'Brown Sugar'.
There was a lot of collaboration on 'Satanic Majesties'. That didnt turn out too good at all. 'Steel Wheels' too.
If they figured that writing together would almost unfailingly result in better songs, I'd imagine that they'd have chosen that option more often than they have done down the years.
The important thing is whether the song is good or not. I think it is. You think it isnt, which is a valid enough opinion. I just dont think that making it a more collaborative effort necessarily means its going to be significantly improved.
The notion that any of us - and obviously I include myself in this - know better than what makes or defines a 'Stonesy song' or 'Stonesy sound' better than Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie do is pretty absurd IMO.

seems that others who initially disliked the song are liking it more upon repeated listenings. i'm not going down that rathole...somebody needs to stick up for what is right and sacred. NO MORE LISTENINGS!

So how many times have you not listened to it...that really is the question!

You should consider taking a break and listen to it again.
