(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

La Fourchette, Pocé sur Cisse, France & St. Vincent, West Indies,

Keith Richards - lead vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, bass
Mick Jagger - acoustic slide guitar, harmony vocals
Charlie Watts - drums
Don Was - piano

Walk right in, sit on down and make yourself at home
Come on baby, you're just like me and you hate to be alone

It's funny how things go around
It's crazy but it's true
This place is empty, oh so empty, it's empty without you

Come on in, bare your breasts and make me feel at home
You and me we're just like all the rest and we don't wanna be alone

It's funny how things go around
But go around they do
This place is empty, empty, so empty without you
Yeah, this place is empty, empty, so empty without you
Oh yeah, it's empty without you

Come on, simmer down and treat me sweet and cool
At least by now you, you have learnt how to love a fool

It's funny how things turn around
It's crazy but it's true
This place is empty, so empty, so empty without you
This place is empty, oh so empty, so empty without you

Produced by Don Was & The Glimmer Twins

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “A Bigger Bang” CD
(Virgin Records / EMI TOCP 66440) Japan, August 31, 2005

One of the strongest album tracks, like all Keith-songs since 1986.

Play this at Indianapolis if that Speedway doesn't get their act(s) together.

A later period Stones song which doesn't really do much for me I'm afraid.

Always thought that the 'bare your breasts' line was odd and a bit clumsy. But hey, that's Keith and as we know he sure likes Patti's hot tits and ass.

A wonderful Keith number from the Bang album; besides it's most infamous line, quite a charming track. Love the Jagger input also; slide guitar and harmony vocals.

the Disney version of Keith Richards sings a "real" ballad. Horrible.

i liked it. i generally like the songs of Keith when it seems he wrote them when he cannot sleep, in the middle of the night 'til dawn

Tragically, what's been empty since about 1998 is Keith's creative imagination.

I find the 'bare your breasts' line quite cringeworthy. However, the melody is nice enough.

Worst Keith's song with 'Losing my touch'

Both Losing My Touch and This Place Is Empty have new chord structures we haven't heard on Stones records earlier - whether we like the songs or not.

That is connected to creativity as far as I can tell, but you are perhaps refering to his creativity when it comes to the volume of his output?

What a wonderful, warm track - all those ingenious hand-carved moving parts!
You can feel his fingers on your skin in those arpeggios

I agree, the warmth is what comes through most in this lovely song- in the music and in the lyrics, even if that famous line. smiling smiley

I truly don't understand what bothers anyone about Keith Richards encouraging his beautiful wife to bare her breasts.
I don't even want to understand it. Just listen to the music. Listen to the bridge. ~*Keith!*~

I'm not sure either. Every time I hurl into my mouth during that bit I feel awful (bad) about it.

Every time I encourage my wife to bare her breasts and make me feel at home I get a (stone) cold look.

Somehow I guess that even makes sense.

Absolute highlight of ABB.

It is not an obvious beauty.

It's a slow number, yet the tempo is quite fast.

The wave between piano and guitar is gorgeous.

And, and, and, the FIRST time ever Jagger playing guitar on any Keith solo number. And what a tender slide line he came up with!

This is an essential Stones song!

I'm not bothered by it. It's just a clumsy line. You can say the same thing but make it more poetic. Dylan wouldn't have been so clunky in describing his carnal lust.

It is a little clumsy, I'll give you that. But that's what makes it work. It's Keith and Keith's not Dylan. I think it would sound affected if he tried to make it more poetic.
Tell us how you would say it Dagger, maybe you can help Treacles out. grinning smiley

Nah mate. That's not a sentiment I'd express in song.
