Don't mean to start any "new" arguments, but why the dislike for The Crue?

I seen them on Sept. 2nd here in PA and thought KISS should have opened for them!

Seriously the best show I ever saw.
True to their fans they put on a excitingly fun, long & loud show.
Could'nt criticize them at all.

Because their music is awful.

I'm not a big fan of Motley Crue, but my daughter was at their July concert in Bristow, VA (she had a summer job at the venue), and she said they blew the roof off the place. Crue was the opening act for Kiss, but had a much better show, with an incredible stage entrance and set. She got to stand in the aisle "guarding" the band as they entered the arena like gladiators from the back. She got a big kick out of it, and said the audience was much more into Motley Crue than Kiss.

saw them in 85 and Cheap Trick blew them off the stage. saw them again recently and they were amazing. Blew Def Leppard off the stage. they came on with no fanfare, and no introduction. Just a loud bang out of the blue, and there they were. incredible.

Exactly. My first thought upon reading the title of this thread was "because they aren't any good?"

Their "music" is derivative, unoriginal crap and the singer, well, isn't one. I have NEVER understood why they were ever successful.

My pleasure, ChrisO. It was a very cool summer job for her, she got to see some big acts like Arrowsmith, Toby Keith, and Iron Maiden. Not a bad job for an 18 year old! And, hey, if you like the band, that's all that counts.

I don't like their sound. But I read their autobiography THE DIRT because it was so outrageous and hilarious and self-deprecating and surprisingly well written. I kind of wish their co-writer had been Keith's.

Mostly because the songs suck so bad. I mean Girls Girls Girls? It's like an insult to my intelligence listening to them. peace

They're jerks (at least one of them killed someone) who make pretty bad music?

Crap band, always been. Just posing and attitude, nothing to add musically. They fit perfectly with KISS.
Saw them in 1984 on a festival with ACDC, Van Halen, Ozzy , Gary Moore and others. What a poor band they were comparing to the other ones.

I've been a fan of the band since the 80's. Perhaps the North Americans on this board might be more acceptable of the band? Regardless, since this is a Stones site, you can mention any other band and there will be those that like and those that dislike: Beatles/ Zeppelin/ U2/ AC/DC, etc!
Saw them in 87 in Vancouver with Whitesnake opening. Rowdiest concert I've ever seen. Also saw them on the Dr. Feelgood tour, 1999 with Scorpions opening and a few years back when they toured with Aerosmith.

Why the dislike? Just listen how bad they are.

I understand that people dislike Vince Neil. He was at the wheel of his car when it crashed killing Razzle (from Hanoi Rocks).I know that Andy McCoy and Michael Monroe never forgave him, and that is understandable. he lost his daughter a few years back and has never gotten over it.Maybe that makes people happy. maybe it makes you happy. I don't know. Anyway, the first album is incredible. On with the show!

Musically speaking they are garbage but the women like them and they give the press somthing to write about. Rascal Flatts,nice harmonies and I believe write their own music..and chicks like them.

I never liked Motley Crue and the whole genre of hair metal bands that were around when they were big. A lot of 80's and 90's metal was based on a very simple and predictable formula that involved over-amplified drums, basic ultra-distorted power chord riffs and screechy falsetto-infused vocals... and lyrics about sex. There were dozens of these bands! I can't tell most of them apart. Motley Crue was one of the biggest of these groups. It was a commercially successful formula, but personally, I agree with some that it was mostly dreadful music. Some folks got into them and remain nostalgic today, and hey, if it sounds good to you, there is nothing wrong with that.

i love pretty much everything they did until the late 90's/ also my favorite album by them is the 1994 self titled with john corabi on vocals

Nikki gets take out at Johnny Rockets in Calabasas and Tommy shops at Trader Joe's in Westlake village...and I've even seen them hanging at Coco's off Las Virgenes Rd...like most of us, they put their pants on one leg at a time.

As for their music, well we all have our opinions on that.

Thanks Tate, you are right about nostalgia. I posted elsewhere how the Queen song Friends will be friends reminds me of my brother who died of a brain tumour in Jan 87 at age 13. there is no doubt that song is rubbish and yet.
It just takes me back. Early Motley crüe does the same.

heres a thought.Much of the Stones mid 60s music isn't that great. But it remains in the memories of people who can't get away from that period. So - lo and behold- it becomes classic!

I will always defend the music I grew up loving, and that includes Motley Crüe.

I've only recently got into them. A friend played me the Wild Side video and i loved it. They have a lot of bad songs though. I've since watched all the documentarys about them on youtube and the story's are incredible. They looked pretty cool in their day too.

Nikki Sixx is a talentless poser. He thinks he's cool, but actually he's the only one who thinks that.
But on the other hand: Dr Feelgood & their debut are fun albums. Even a track or two I like from Shout at the devil.

And yes; The Dirt is a great read even if you think there's a lot of made up stuff in there.

There is a lot dislike on this board because a lot of folks who post here are more fans of mellower, softer, country type of music... so no surprise that they are not really into a hard charging kick ass rock and roll band like Motley Crue.

I have seen the Crue a bunch of times and they were fun every time.
They play good time hard rock and fkn roll and Mick Mars is a talented guitar player.

Cheers for that. That guy has a pretty decent voice.

I find it wierd though that any band that big would have the balls to get a new lead singer, it just doesn't make any sense. You can replace any instrument player and joe public, non musicians won't be able to tell the difference but you can't lose the voice. It was the same with Sabbath and Ozzy.
I supose these songs were more about the guitar riffs than the melodys, that's why they thought they'd be ok.
