Assuming that these prices (or similar prices) hold who the hell is going to buy this cd? The die hard fans have all these songs many times over and the casual fan will never shell out that kind of money when he can buy Hot Rocks or 40 Licks used on Amazon for $5.

To make sales prospects worse the greatest hits collection will be in direct competition with the new Led Zeppelin live cd. The pent up demand for new LZ material of any kind combined with the the reasonable price the LZ single disc of 16 songs LZ first week sales will dwarf this incredibly overpriced set from the Stones.

Can these prices be for real?

i agree. this is insane but those are the import prices. expect the price to be about $23, $55 and $189 for the domestic versions.

Are the Stones and their MGT team aware that almost nobody in 2012 buys cd's especially at those prices? I would offer the cheapest set for around $12 if I wanted to move some cd's.

thos were my guesses at the prices but i don't see them being that far off. hell bob seger just released a 2 cd hits set last year and the first week it was on sales for less than $10

Led Zeppelin's reunion CD is a double disc, so probably about $15. Not much less than the normal priced Stones CD.

Hey Darling, Very good anwser, I could write that one for each thread on this board. Who's forcing you to... Really, just the front cover is visible and we Kniow names of 2 songs. If it was a single, should be OK but there...

I bet the LZ release would likely help sales of GRRR... as some LZ fans might buy both. Probably the other way around as well.

I'll be buying both, but if I were Stones mgt I wouldnt have put it up against the LZ release. Any new material from LZ will fly off the shelves as its been 30+ years since we've had any.

With the exception of the two new songs I have no interest in Grrr!

The teenage kids are gonna have to do a lot of caddying and work a lot of shifts at the malt shop to put together enough nickels to buy Grrr!

Both the Stones and Led Zeppelin should be quivering with fear because the new Graham Parker and the Rumour album also drops on November 20.

That one'll fly off the shelves and have both bands thinking "Grrr! This is not a celebration day."

I'll be getting the Led Zeppelin record and not the Stones one.

The "discount" is likely the missing VAT, which you MIGHT have to pay when importing goods to the US or Canada (not sure, as I am within the EU). In Europe Amazon should add the local VAT for the country you live in and there is no tax issues at the customs office for sure within the EU.

Good luck - and lets just hope they won´t cancel the orders because of a price error... We´ll see..

It's a ripoff any way you look at it. Nobody, will buy at these prices.


p.s. I made a mistake. The cd does not come out the same day as the Led Zep cd. LZ comes out a week later.

Generally, if I'm buying a new boxed set - like Neil Young's "Archives" or the 15-CD Dylan SA-CD box from a few years ago for example - I've tended to order them from the US, as even with the cost of airmail its a substantial saving.

The thing that we do have to watch for in the UK is import duty, which is quite prohibitive on anything over about £20 and can end up defeating the purpose of getting an import. So if its not possible to get the package addressed to myself as a gift, I instead get it addressed to my wife. A small detail which can end up saving about £20-30 at times.

I will download the 2 new songs, or listen to them on youtube. If they're great, I'll be happy for atleast a week. If not, I just forget them.

Tell me about it. I bought 3 great posters from the Bill Graham site but got charged a mental £40 in import duty.

I've noticed some strange pricing on Amazon UK recently. I used to pre-order a lot of items and ended up paying much less than the eventual released price.

Recently though a lot of pre releases have had very high prices and these have fallen quite quickly nearer to release time.

Last week I pre-ordered the Blue Oyster Cult 17 disc box set on Amazon UK. Amazon US had it listed at about $150 which has now come down to $120. Amazon UK had it for £54. The price has now disappeared on the Uk site so I'm guessing it was an error. Let's hope they stick to their price promise.

Maybe the Grrr monkey has been put in charge of pricing !!!

When Beatles published their Stereo and mono- Boxsets I was lucky to order - and receive - a Mono-boxset from a amazon.co.uk-seller for just £ 16 (including postage). Which was less than a tenth of the listprice at the time.

I'm in! Many thanks - thats probably saved me quite a lot. €43 including postage will be hard to beat!

I have orders in at Amazon.ca, .de, .com and .co.uk right now because prices and formats keep changing/getting added.
