Robert Plant won't do it.

He's a serious solo artist (that Led Zep fans think "ummmm" about).

OK.. Big Log was good...

And that Alison Krauss stuff was nicely produced (but hey Robert.. come on!) but I'll never put it on again.

I disagree: Plant's solo material started off lacking confidence, but he grew into being an excellent solo artist from Manic Nirvana onwards. I am a Led Zeppelin fan, but I never think "ummmm" about Plant's solo stuff, as he has ploughed his own furrow with spectacular results.

I also think the momentum was with Plant to do the totally different Unledded/Walking Into Clarksdale projects with Jimmy Page, which was an amazing reunion. Even appearances on the More Oar and Good Rocking Tonight tribute albums showed something totally different to Led Zeppelin.

Plant then followed with Dreamland and Mighty Rearranger; one an album full of covers, the other a fascinating journey into world music, which continued the sounds that Zeppelin had on In The Light, Kashmir, etc. The people that go "ummm" should have more receptive ears to Plant's world music efforts.

I referred earlier to Plant appearing with Page on the Good Rocking tribute album to Sun Studios. Covering Sonny Burgess's My Bucket's Got A Hole In It showed that Plant was not afraid to play rockabilly, another genre that Zeppelin used on Candy Store Rock and Ozone Baby. The natural progression from rockabilly is country, which Plant has done to great aplomb with Alison Krauss and Band of Joy.

I would also add that Alison Krauss is no stranger to rock either: she has covered The Foundations Now That I Found You, Blind Faith's Can't Find My Own Way Home, The Beatles' I Will, Bad Company's Oh Atlanta, and Robert Plant's Big Log; you'd find her version of Big Log on a Viktor Krauss solo album on Nonesuch.

Plant has also used some excellent musicians on his recent Band of Joy album, i.e. Buddy Miller, Patty Griffin. It's a shame that some want him to return to the old Led Zeppelin style, when he is just as much, now, a great solo artist that, quite frankly, doesn't need Led Zeppelin anymore.

I can't warm to the Alison Krauss stuff.

I tried, it's too shiny/clinical.

I see Plant/Page collaborations as a sort of Zep thing. Clarksdale was OK.. Unledded was like a curates egg.

I'm not into world music... I have a small threshold for listening to bongos, pipes hurdy gurdies and tablas.

I also.. whisper it... don't like Robert's voice as much... that goes for some later Zeppelin stuff.

He had a throat op in the mid 70s and was never the same after.. that's what you get for singing Immigrant Song without warm ups.

His voice on Zep I to IV is immense.

Celebration Day indeed! It's 44 years ago today that I saw Led Zeppelin at Kassa, Manglerud in Oslo. Still fullfilling old contracts under the name The New Yardbirds, but playing songs from their first LP, which they started recording a few weeks later.

Oh, wow, fantastic! I may be wrong, but didn't they perform the odd Yardbirds song during those shows? I think Heart Full Of Soul was one of them. There must've been a few bemused Yardbirds fans at those shows!

I have a great boot version of Zep dong For Your Love. Wonderful, hard fat version. Not sure what year it is from. it is on a five disc set called Uncensored. I am getting more and more stoked for this release. And if Robert wants to jam with them again, I hope to be there. His last two solo albums were magnificent. I love Mighty Re-arranger. And Dreamland is stunning. So much better than his cheesy 80s stuff. More grit and soul.

It may be that they did For Your Love, I don't remember precisely. All I remember is that almost all the music was new to me. It was a big surprise yes, to hardly recognize anyone in the band. Remember that Jimmy Page, although he had been a member for a couple of years, was not a very well known face. The Yardbirds had not had any hits for more than two years and were definitely regarded as "yesterdays's papers". I saw the new band as the final downfall of the Yardbirds and had absolutely no idea this was the start of one of the greatest bands in rock history.

Nice press conference. At 15:25 there's a nice bit about Jason playing drums. What Plant said is fantastic.
