OT: Willie Nelson's Long Encore

Wow. What a great read about Willie. I'm not a big fan of him, but a number of his songs flow through my ongoing listening experience, done by him and others. Red Headed Stranger is the album that first got me to listening to him. The Outlaws with Waylon and others was a big listen. He and Merle do a great version of Pancho and Lefty. An overlooked album of Willie's, IMHO, is Teatro, well worth seeking out.

A sobering quote from this article can also be applied to our favortie band -

“At the end of every tour, Will talks about retiring,” Annie says. “
‘I think I might retire.’ But then we’ll have a conversation:
‘Well, what would you do if you retired?’
We both know the answer: Just lay down and die."

It looks like my all time favorite concert is Willie Nelson. And not one that started with Whiskey River. (Though I did see Willie and Family in 1983 at the Indiana State Fair).

This night was special. Maybe it was a one of a kind, I don't know. It was at my adopted city's favorite venue, the Hollywood Bowl. I can't believe it was 2013. Willie performed the entirety of his album 'Stardust', accompanied by the 21-piece Hollywood Bowl orchestra. It was very moving, and you felt his own advancing age in the songs.

Then he went into Whiskey River, and we were off into Greatest Hits land. A marvelous evening.

He talked about that on stage. How he was taken to her house and played the song for her. He said the little changes she made is what made it a great song.

Yeah that's a good one, but there's too may greats to choose from tp pick just one.
And at 89 years old, he keeps on making and releasing them...like a river that keeps on flowing....a waterfall of greatness...Niagra Falls....

LEGEND.

Dusty Bottles is such a great song for a number of people here. Imagine Keith doing it during his part of a live show and Willie coming out to join him on it. The house would go nuts.

That would be really cool! With Stones not touring, Willie show and Dusty Bottles with special guest, Keef...?? I'd love it!
