A beautiful ballad, though I do find myself gravitating less towards the single and more towards the better live-renditions. I liked the Hyde Park #2 performance from this year. In the 10 shows I’ve caught, I think I may have only heard it once; Giants Stadium, 2002.

It was an autumn song. Of course it was huge and on the radio all the time. People weren't expecting a ballad after Exile and the '72 tour. There was even a video, which in the States was still rare for the group. It was a real heart puller. There was this feeling, on Angie, and on the album, that the Stones were coming to an end. And surprisingly, most of it was written by Keith, though most people assumed it was about a Mick love affair ending.

A beautiful song. They never again approached such wistfulness.
