Something is off about that second photo. Doesn't look as cool as the first.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody at this website has owned or played a Dan Armstrong Acrylic guitar before, same model as per Keith Richards on the 1969 US Tour. What are your thoughts on the playability of this guitar? Thank you

I've never played one.

I would imagine the "playability" is fine, the neck will be good.

But the sustain?

Does the material kill or extend sustain?

I'm guessing it's a sustain killer as it's plastic? (Which is not necessarily bad for some applications).

You could do a search on this board, there's dozens of threads about this guitar.

Good point GravityBoy. I wonder what how the sustain is affected by this body during playing.

Thank you for the tip Mathijs, I'll do a proper search and look for answers.
It is such an intriguing guitar, I'm sure this is the right website to find out more. I'm guessing IORR has plenty of guitar players.

I loved my Dan Armstrong Bass Guitar.... much different than my P Bass, I play Bass with my fingers and liked the spacing better on the P Bass, but the Dan Armstrong (I thought) always sounded good... here's a song my band wrote and recorded where I am using the Dan Armstrong

I have a '69. As Mathijs noted, they've been discussed at length on a number of threads. I haven't played mine live in quite a while but I don't think I'd ever part with it either. We've been through a fair amount together over the last twenty years.

I tried one out in a music shop a few years ago. It was lovely. When it was cranked up with some distortion it was an absolute beast.

I have one, since 15 years. Very powerfull, very punchy. But it's very difficult to keep the guitar in tune. I don't know for others, maybe it's juste mine?

Hi hummingbird and andrewm. I have been reading through the other threads, there is some good info! Very helpful.

Thanks Johnny, yeah, have looked at the other threads before, too. The originals have a rep for not intonating/staying in tune due to the poorly designed, non-adjustable bridge set-up. Certainly true, but I've gotten good use out of min over the years and the fact that so many players of note have used 'em (Richards, Wood, Perry, Jordan, Thunders, Kramer, Verlaine, Ginn, Robinson, etc. off the top of my head) speaks to the fairly unique sound they offer. Having said that, the fact that I haven't used it live for a while must mean something-partly that's down to using capos more frequently and being concerned about tuning issues as a result.
