Keith in front of the amps, 1971

Is this down in that famous basement? Anymore photos from the same day? The caption for the photo says "Having lost his boots, Keith is about to lose consciousness. He crashed out moments after this photo was taken".

Maybe he changed his shirt

yes, he did change his shirt. there were two sessions that night, both filmed;
one was just for the cameras, and the other was for a crowd of acquaintances.
the latter is when Keith wore the glittery Nudie jacket.

i love that first shot dearly (and no, he did not pass out just after it was taken)

Hi with sssoul - thanks for the info. I guess Roy Carr was trying to be funny. (Photo from the book The Rolling Stones - an illustrated record by Roy Carr, 1976). Actually, Keith always looked wide awake to me! I looked for the photographer, but Roy decided that was not important, but he did name them up in the front of the book. Hope you decide to post more often like you did before...

Live at the Marquee Club, London, 26th March 1971. Mick Taylor really shines on this!

Can't you put yourself out of your misery ?
A water pistol does the trick.

I thought was in the studio, right before he passed out and broke his nose.

That nose incident was during the summer 1978 sessions at RCA. Look at Keith on the 1978 tour then on SNL. Big difference in how he looked from then on.

Trying to figure out how the amps were distributed for this show. I started looking harder because in original pic Keith is sitting in front of two Ampegs. So they are over on his side Bill using one (?); Keith the other. But on Taylor's side we see two Fender amps; one on top of a Fender cab, another on top of an Ampeg. Who was using those?

During Taylor years they had back up amps on stage too, guess they also added to the look of things. With a few exceptions, like Keith at the Rock and Roll Circus, most pics seem to show that they only plugged in to one amp each at the gigs from this era and before.

I may not be a math whiz, but if the 10th anniversary show was in 1971, why was the 50th in 2012?

It gets worse....they started with the 75th in 1968.
I think you just do the math through a prism and it all works....

Aw, thats a great image.
Think about it - this is the 26/3/71 - within ten days Keith has left the country, boarding the BA plane for Nice on the fifth of April. The Exile period, if there is anything like that, has already begun.
But then again, when this image is taken, Sticky Fingers has not even been released.

The 50th runs a full year, from summer of 2011 -> summer of 2012. They were a little late with the Nov/Dec shows (they had already turned 51)!

David Daltons book shows two more pics of the RS in The Marquee 1971.
One where Keith is plugged in the Fender combo silverface.
Pic 2 shows the RS with the stage gear, Keith's side a Fender on top of an Ampeg combo next to probably a silverface Fender. They probably used both amps through the set.

I have always thought that this picture was taken from a show in Hamburg, Germany after keith stepped on a burger while playing on stage which made him fall down on his ass. Ok my mistake.

In general, they used a row of Ampegs, from left to right: 1 for the piano, 2 for Wood/Taylor, 2 for Richards and 2 for Wyman. They all used one and had one back-up. For some of the 1971 shows the Ampeg's where too loud, and Fender Silverface Twin's where used. They rested on top of the Ampeg. Notice on the picture of Keith in front of the Ampeg that he is plugged into Wyman's amp, with 2*18" speakers.

The Twin behind Wyman has always puzzled me though. It was there for some '69 shows as well. My best guess is that it is used as a monitor, with most probably Charlie's kick-drum on it, ot some of Jagger's vocals. Charlie used a Twin in 75/76 as a monitor as well, placed to his right.

I was one of two still photographers allowed at the gig (no mobiles then!)
It was a very interesting day - rehearsals in the afternoon without keef and mick playing rhythm, them the shoot with keef there, in the evening.
My scanner is u/s, but I'll post up a couple later.
