What did he say about Led Zeppelin/John Bonham/Peter Grant regarding a beating involving tour promoters on the last Led Zep U.S. tour? Supposedly when Peter Grant read Graham's book he wept, because he did not want to be remembered as a bad person as a result of his part in what took place. Supposedly, Graham swore that following this incident, Led Zep would never be allowed to perform in the U.S. again if he had his way about it, but then the issue became moot when Bonham died.

Fantastic book and a must read for classic rock fans. Haven't read it in a while so need to dig my copy out again.

Don't know about never playing the States again, but Graham did say he could never book them again (I believe they got off with a fine and a suspended sentence).
Grant and Bonham were worried about a civil suit that could be filed if/when they returned to the States.

In interesting OT regarding Zeppelin: When the 1977 tour was announced, Toronto was one of the cities. Of course when Plant got ill, the tour had to be postponed and reschuled. But during the break, Keith had been busted in Toronto. When the new tour schedule was announced, Toronto was not on the schedule. I think Buffalo was announced later (which they never did). After Keith's arrest, I don't Grant wanted his boys to set foot in Canada (Page being a bit out of it at that time).

Thanks, tomk--I think it was Bonham's stash they were worried about. Apparently, he would do a lot of blow on the drum kit during the show and the roadies used to have quite a bonanza while breaking down after and sweeping up for themselves all the "residuals" left by Bonham during the performance. But yeah, probably Page doing the same thing Keith was doing as well.

This is a bit OT for this thread, but there's two Zep gigs that were stopped after one of the band members were ill. The first was in Chicago '77 where they stopped after about 6 songs and blamed it on Page's "Gastroenteritis." From reports I've read from people that were there, Page looked really dope sick and probably sniffed too much between songs. The other was in 1980 when Bonham collapsed after after 4 songs because he "ate too many bananas." Some people that were they claim that he was drunk as a skunk, stumbled into his kit before the show even started. One guy said he saw him drinking it up at a bar a few hours before the show. He was taken to a hospital not because he ate too much but from alcohol poisoning. Then again, who knows? This is from reports from people who were there, not my speculation.

Liked the book. Knew Graham. Ultimately he thought he was a Star.
Can't imagine Peter Grant in tears. He had no class whatsoever.
