Mick's vocal on the released version is the cherry on the cake.
Keith doesn't have the timbre, gravitas or the menace to do this.
Still it's not bad.

DandelionPowdermanWell, I think the studio version with Keith on vocals proove you wrong. Mick almost blue-printed Keith's vocals on the finished studio version.Quote

Keith certainly does not carry a song like Mick does, that's why Mick is the singer. Keith's voice is thinner.
Timbre, phrasing, gravitas and menace.
Mick's vocal is brilliant on top of a brilliant Keith track.

In most cases I would have agreed with you, but after hearing Keith here on GS, I know who made Mick's vocal lines.
Of course Mick is the better singer.

In fact.. if you comapre the two.. Mick changed the melody slightly...
umm see the the storm is THREATENING, my very life today, if I don't get some SHELTER...
Little things make a big difference.
Keiths vocal is dynamically flat and samey, Micks is more impassioned and lively.

I guess that if you don't hear that Keith is singing GS here you must be deaf.

I have that version on this bootleg from '93:
rolling stones
the anniversary 30 years live on stage
no guitar hero game out at the time.
it's also on the Let it Bleed Sessions boot where You Got The Silver with Micks vocals can be found.

Question: Does anyone have a 40-year-old bootleg LP with this track on it? Or did it only "come to light" sometime after the appearance of the "Guitar Hero" game?
This track came from a batch of tapes provided by Jimmy Miller. He made tapes for friends when he lived in London, producing Primal Scream in the early 90's. Some tapes where sold through Sotheby's, and most of the Beggars/LIB and Exile outtakes available today come from Miller.

Yeah, they are both in there with Mick mixed a lil lower than Keith.

Keep on guessing, but that's a stupid thing to say.
Yeah, it could be Keith Richards - but it could easily be a fake Keith as well. If you're so positive about things like this; join More Hot Rocks and play the lottery. I always doubted this Gimme Shelter. Could be Keith. Could be not. Could be you.
