Acquiescing is the word, isn't it? I don't know what a guy who does ads for Louis Vuitton and photo shoots for Vogue stands for really. Bourgeois bohemian chic maybe? I have never heard the guy utter a political thought in his entire life. He stands for nothing but an senescent rock and roll lifestyle. Whatever that implies in year 2012?

oh he's political...re: the Vuitton ads.....Keith's fees were a donation.

As in the first wave of the campaign, Louis Vuitton is making a donation to The Climate Project, spearheaded by Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore, on behalf of Keith Richards.
The visual, the first in a new series of portraits of exceptional people, will appear in major international titles from April 2008 as part of Louis Vuitton's continuing core values advertising campaign.

Thanks for the information, Rip This. Since you mention it, I remember that it was some charity involved. I don't know if it changes much, but your remark is correct.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what were those Pink Floyd flying pigs really about? I can understand the "brick in the wall" metaphor but the pigs seems to have escaped me...

....if Keith Richards shows up it would be an ultimate capitulation to one of the things he has most stood against his entire life... aquiescing to the establishment...the Queen will be there for sure..just sayin'.

Funny!

What would it have implied in year 1999 or year 1989 or year 1981?

I don't know, WLTPTB. The same thing, maybe? (By the way, it's a senescent, not an senescent. I screwed up the article there...)

I believe that Mick holds all the cards with any Stones activity these days.

Its as close as we've come to WW IV inside the machine, IMO.

I have no inside knowledge, and part of the reason things are so secretive is either because Mick demands it that way, of because nothing is happening.

They did practice twice, once with Wyman and once with Darryl, and that was as close to the vest as anything theyve done in decades. Why would they do that? Lots of possibilities:

1. To see if they can play one song with little rehearsal and sound credible at the closing ceremonies?

2. Because Mick wanted to see if Keith could still play at the required level as he has aged, has messed up fingers, had a major head injury, has damn near gone sober, etc. I heard he passed the test with flying colors and the band sounded surprisingly tight.

3. He just needed footage for a documentary

I doubt #3 is the reason.

IF Mick wants the Stones to play, they'll play.

Keith will side with Mick over his anti-establishment views. He is a Brit and a Stone at heart, and if Mick says lets do this, Keith and likely Wyman will be there, maybe even Taylor. If Mick wants PR, there is no better place to do this than The Closing ceremony.

With that said, he can also stick the knife back in Keith by doing the gig solo.

He also can put his Gilligan (Bob Denver) look back on and hang out with his family in the press box, but something tells me Mick is not the one to sit around when an opportunity like this presents itself.

Time will tell.

they didn't do the Jubilee for the Queen..they didn't do the opening ceremony for Queen and country...and then....if they do the closing after Spice Girls, half a Who and Elton John, I'll be surprised.....real hard choice between True Blood and Les Miserables.....

That simple, leteyer? I thought Pink Floyd were "deep thinkers". But there you go!

IMHO, I think the only Stones we'll get is during that recorded track to close the closing. cool smiley

I do wish we'd get Mick with the pink parasol during 'Pomp And Circumstance' though.

Re: Stones rumored to play Olympics Closing Ceremony

The Stones have not rehearsed for the closing ceremony, like the other bands/musicians who will perform have. I have that confirmed from people who is playing there.

So, I guess it won´t happen. Big surprise...
