You can go to bed. The fat lady (cleverly disguised as the Who) has sung and no Stones have appeared. Can't say I'm surprised.

Agree - I'm not remotely surprised they didn't appear live, but Beatles and David Bowie tracks were played, so why no Stones??? That is just plain ignorant.

I am clearly no David Bailey, but here are a few of my measly efforts to capture the fireworks from my window smiling smiley

maybe the stones did say no to performing and not playing in stones track was pay back,,

no matter how you look at it,, how can one devise a program dedicated to British music and not play a stones song or 2,,,

#epicfail

on the organizers and the stones themselves,,

I am thrilled the Stones were not there in the Who's time slot. They played for about five minutes and it was just a side show with no impact.

But... the Who, the Stones, are truly too old for an event like this.

If Keith can't cut it in six months then just forget about a mini arena tour with a final big TV event. 2007 was it. Which is fine. It will end up being a graceful way to end it all.

They are not a "rock group" as we all know, they are just a bunch of old men that made some great music and made our hearts sing.

Hilarious. Even right up to the last second, people actually thought the Stones might play.

But

did you expect to not hear a stones song?

on what is to be a "symphony of british music"

well consider this, the Stones may have been born in Britain, but I think of them as the ultimate American Roots Rock Band. Their music and sound (blues, soul, gospel, old time R&B and R&R) is really American.

Their music has not really had that strong link to their "Britishness", nowhere near the way the Who have had through so many of their works. The Who have long played up their Britishness, but the Stones have not not.

Hard to see how the Stones would have fit into the otherwise over-the-top-gayness of it all.

Well if they did a Bowie segment without Bowie being there, I wonder why they wouldnt want to do a segment about the Stones too? It would have sounded cool, The Stones have a lot of good songs... unless Mick got a good prelook at this whole thing and said "Thanks, but no Thanks"
