Stones rumored to play Olympics Closing Ceremony

They just announced it on ABC news like it was confirmed but a search reveals no confirmation...perhaps that's why there was that recent rehersal?

Well IF that turns out to be true, the whole RS machine needs to be awarded a prize for guarding the secret this well for this long. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it.

The way to solve this riddle is to plant a GPS tracker in BV's blue T shirt and red & black striped jacket. If either of those two items are tracked heading to east London on Saturday 12th August ....................... then it could be true !!

well, they have had 2 "rehersals" right and Tim Ries did cut his tour with Rufus Wainwright short, end of July instead of going through December...

We'll find out soon enough if that's why Mick was schmoozing with Lord Coe.

Everyone involved has been sworn to secrecy though George Michael has opened his big gob and there has been a hint or two of a Spice Girls reunion. I wouldn't rule out the Stones in theory but kind of hope not. It would be a rather large audience for Keith to expose his inability to.

No, it will be the spice girls

Tickets were still available on the Olympic site for £150 yesterday. But you will have needed to have registered for that before the event.

.......and what was that Mick said about not being ready for the Olympics ?

The Olympic artists are not being paid (£1 each in order for there to be a contract) so that kind of rules out the Stones!

It won't happen unless they mime the backing.

The Spice Girls will mime for sure.

God.. think of all those egos fighting for closing spot.

The mind boggles.

The thought crossed my mind this morning that they could do it. They're still a London band and with the Olympics in their own backyard then who knows?

It could explain the lack of announcements around July 12th.

The payment, a quid, doesn't bother Sir Michael - it's probably the fact that he has to pay taxes on that quid that scares him! I do think Sir Michael wants to be in, in someway though. It has to do with favours and favours in return. Otherwise he runs the risk of being criticized for not giving anything back to the Queen. If you know what I mean (to quote a famous britpoper...).

This officiall text from London2012 would fit, and especially the mentioning of 50 years:

The Closing Ceremony of the Olympic Games will be titled ‘A Symphony of British Music’, to celebrate the fact that music has been one of Britain’s strongest cultural exports over the last 50 years. The worldwide broadcast of the Ceremony will start at 9pm and feature more than 4,100 performers, including 3,500 adult volunteers and 380 schoolchildren from the six east London Host Boroughs.

I think I will watch anyway...

the greatest rock and roll band in the world - definitely

I just hope this rumour remains a rumour concerning the Stones.

The list of participants includes a surplus of rockin' Sirs--without Sir Mick, he'll be the odd Sir man out if he refuses. Likely not the Stones, but perhaps Sir Mick will appear solo like he did on SNL.

I read somewhere but may be wrong that for all the musical acts for logistical reasons (so many changeovers, I presume) that the backing tracks will all be pre-recorded with only the vocals being live.

I don't know if this is true but if so then that could be the door for the Stones to perform and not worry about Keith!

Wouldn't he still have had to play on the recording?

Anyone could do that (for him)....

It could be their ideal exit from live shows on a global scale, one show only, high exposure, no risk of f***-ups.....

Even though it'd be a con, it'd still be a 'legit' con as all the other performers would have to be doing the same.

Anyway, I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.
