Anyone Listen To Perth '73 Lately?

What a great bootleg...my favourite. This is the one that needs a nice clean-up and official release. Loud and manic with a perfect amount of sloppiness. Great crunching guitars and a fantastic groove all around. Great mix! I swear you can cleanly pick out any instrument. Listening to it is like sitting at the front table in bar listening to the greatest bar band in the world...

Jeez, what happened to Charlie here? He couldn't find the downbeat!

it's Mick Taylor's fault...somehow...

Supposedly, Keith took acid before this gig. Sounds like Charlie took it, too, but I think this is a little chain reaction because of Keith being a little unprecise in the intro (EDIT after one more spin: No, it's all Charlie).

Great version anyway, as is the whole show. One of my favourites. Probably the best Rocks Off captured on tape ever, too!

Probably the only GS where Taylor plays a wah-wah throughout, no?

yep..never heard of another GS with wah-wah.

seems strange that Taylor would have the pedal next to him and only play it once during the Aussie tour...

great show, arguably the best ever if you excuse the Charlie muck up.

Hot Bitch, Rocks Off, Gimme Shelter & Happy !

surprised there wasnt much chat about the footage that was posted on her a few weeks back...looked very cool...even in 40 degrees !

The footage you are thinking of, comes from Melbourne 1973. No Perth footage has ever circulated, before that youtube-clip showed up.

Charlie needs more than 2 min to find into the groove. He stopped playing, got turned down by the PA, is still not on the beat . .this could only be the Stones.
From then on it's a great,hot version.
This G. Shelter always amazed me.

There are quite some more Shelters from the 72 and 73 years on which Charlie has some trouble in the beginning. Strange actually.

correct Eric...
the Perth footage was mind blowing...yet hardly caused a stir among the iorr faithful

kleermaker - are those Gimme Shelters u uploaded all from Australia ? I haven't heard wah-wah on any aussie shows except Perth.

Yeah, I know. He had problems on some Vegas era versions too.But mostly 72/73.
But this one and one from 72(was it Seattle?)were the hot shots.

No Eric, it's a selection from all 72 and 73 tours. In the last one I uploaded (Birmingham first, Sept. 19) is some nice wah wah at the end of the song: une grande finale.

Sorry folks but you are confused about what Aussie Stones show Keith dropped acid at.
It wasn't the daytime Perth concert but was in fact the night time concert performed in Sydney on the 27th February 1973

I'd personally rather take acid on a lovely summer's night with the bands's pretty light show plus the fireworks used to end the show (& that frightened the horses in their stables at Randwick Racecourse), than on a stinking 40 degree hot summers day with sweat pouring down & out every hole I owned!

well there's actually 3 soundboards from this short tour (Sydney x2, Perth)...plus above average audio recordings for most of the other shows...certainly better than the audio recordings from the US Tour.
i wouldnt call them half assed.

They may be soundboards, but their sound is horrible to my ears.

Perth is great, but so are most of the Aussie '73 boots. I love both Sydney shows, Mick T is awesome on the 27th. Pretty much all shows from the down under tour (except a few) are well worth hearing.

The soundboards are very dry and quite trebly, very raw, but they're okay once you get used to them. Turn up the bass if needed. smiling smiley

Have to agree they may be a little raw but they are still pretty good sounding shows IMHO. Certainly better then most of the 72 US tour shows but I would kill for a complete 72 MSG multitrack that we have a fragment of.
