Believing that Bowie is worth 9/10 of a billion dollars seems pretty "out there" to me.

Accept the fact.

So you couldn't find anything. Neither could I.

I don't accept anything from hearsay.

At what point did Bowie lose his sight?

Ya, it kind of looks like they photoshopped the white cane out of the picture.

His latest persona?

Based on Howard Hughes?

He looks a bit shrunken in those pictures.

It's all a bit sad.

I hope he's OK.

I thought he already did the Howard Hughes thing in the 70s while in LA. Being a recluse in the dark, at his home all the time. pissing in jars and storing them in the fridge. You know, fun stuff like that.

I hope David at least smells better and cuts his toenails occasionally.

great list (and Bowie pic thumbs up)

Wow, would have figured Page, Plant and Townsend to be at least in the 10-15 range. Were Page/Plant mismanaged or something, and did Townsend lose 10s of million$ due to alleged legal issues?

What's off shore is unknown. List cannot be accurate. No way Brian Johnson is wealthier than Angus Young Who is not on the list, his wealth is Estimated to be between $120 and $140 million, which is at least 75,000,000 pounds.

...and no Americans (like Springsteen) made the list?

so? Brian Johnson, Rod Stewart and Ozzie have lived in the states for more than 25 years. And for that matter, Angus was born in the UK and moved to Australia as a child. Looking at the list, I don't think it said British born musicians.

Listening to the (brilliant) claustrophobic lyrics on Low, I think you are right.

Baby
I've been
Breaking glass in your room again
Listen

Don't look
At the carpet
I drew something awful on it

See

You're such a wonderful person
But you got problems oh-oh-oh-oh
I'll never touch you

I love the carpet line... jeeze.. what was it...?

Impact factor of expensive divorces and prodigious drug habits? These rich list do not taken into account cash in bank accounts. They are all based on publicly available info on property assets, concerts and merchandise revenue, record sales and royalties, income and dividends from Ltd companies, etc.

Page/Plant mismanaged? Peter Grant, Bill Curbishley, Peter Mensch, hmmmmmm LOL

Cheers,
SonicD

I really believe Bowie is catching up on life. Being a hands on father and loving husband. Taking a cue from Lennon's hiatus, he seems to be emersing himself in his family. Good on him. I do miss him, but understand, and hope he has a few more great albums in him that he wants to share with us. Thanks Sailor. Keep on keeping on.

He sold the rights to all of his songs about eleven years back for untold millions upon millions of dollars...

Actually, he issue "Bowie bonds" in 1997 and got paid about $55 million for it. Strictly speaking they were not bonds but asset backed securities - the investor gets pay a fixed amount of interest over a specific time period. This is quite different from selling all your rights.

You can read about David Pullman (Pullman Group LLC) if you want to know how it works. Important detail: the artist and publishing royalties are retained by the original owner.
The deal described above was just for 10 years, so the revenue from the 25 Bowie albums involved with it has been going directly to DB again since 2007.

(David Letterman talks about "stock" instead of bonds/securities here, but by his own admission he doesn't know anything about finance).

In 1978 David Bowie single-handedly invented the 1980s.

Genius.

The next 10 years were comprised of everyone doing a pale immitation of him.
