Believe me, this was much better and more insightful than I was expecting from Entertainment Weekly of all places. I think Mick's later stage version of 'That's How Strong My Love Is' out classes the studio version, but hell, at least they're aware of the cut. Not bad.

No kidding, I was hesitant to even look at this list knowing they would probably fk it up, again... but they (or someone) picked a nice bunch of Stones songs, I wouldnt call it an "ULTIMATE" playlist, but if it can get the children who read EW and probaly listen mostly to Bieber types to give the Stones a look/listen... then more power to them.

As far as generation gaps go, and they continue to go on and on, that's a bit like asking our generation back in the day to have given Glenn Miller a look/listen...if you want proof, check out the photo EW used--from 1982. If EW had used the July 2012 "Marquee" photo, and why wouldn't you if you're talking about the band turning 50 rather than one of the photos we first saw when the band was turning 20, then they would have scared the kids away completely.

Yeah.... it would be intersting to know the back ground of this piece, the motivation, the objective... and even more interesting to see if there was any way to measure to see if it had any effect/ results

I think they totally missed the point of You Got the Silver. Did anyone else think it's a Keith Is A Charming Drunk song?

I thought it was a about a guy who loves a girl so much, he doesn't care how much she hurts him. But that's just me.

and that picture's not even from 1982... or even that decade!

You're right, it's Some Girls era--EW must be trying to turn 15 year old punks on to the Stones or to keep their young readers from throwing the mag away in disgust... because everyone knows EW readers don't typically flip through AARP to check out the photos...

Just shows you that hindsight is blindsight. Everyone views Keith as a drunk now...because he's been one for 35 years. Whereas You Got The Silver, that's actually a Keith Is A Charming Junkie song if there ever was one.

I wont start a new thread for this.. and beings I read about it
after going to EW.com from this thread... I will park it here FYI.... [popwatch.ew.com]

SEE THEIR LAST PERFORMANCE TONIGHT ON TV!!

Stephen King's all-author rock band plays swan song on 'The Late Late Show' --

Every so often since 1992, an all-star crew of writers — which has included Stephen King, Dave Barry, Amy Tan, Barbara Kingsolver, Scott Turow and Simpsons creator Matt Groening — have stepped away from their laptops and notepads to play in an all-author band called The Rock Bottom Remainders. By their own admission, the Remainders have never been what you’d call great. “We’re a novelty, like a dog that can dance,” Barry recently told EW. (Bruce Springsteen once put it to them this way: “Don’t get any better or you’ll just be another lousy garage band.”) But being great was never really the point — it was about momentarily indulging their fantasies of rock-star glory and raising money for various literary organizations.

It's not Some Girls Era, they used that picture to promote European Tour 1976

EW should have just used a 1964 U.S. tour photo.

Am I the only one who remembers the Swing Revival of about a decade ago? It included more rocking swing, like the Brian Setzer Orchestra, but also included the big band type music in the Glenn Miller Orchestra style. I was at a party at Disneyland around then, and a Glenn-Miller-type band was playing, and a bunch of 15-year-old girls were gigglingly and pityingly teaching me how to dance swing (worse things can happen!). They were well-versed in the big band music and dance moves in a way I wasn't.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra still tours (no joke). Obviously without Glenn Miller, of course. Buy tickets here>>> [www.concertboom.com] If you do, you'll probably be surprised at the number of youngish people in the crowd.

Here's a TV news story on the Swing Revival from 1999

Hell, I know some guys called the Reynolds Brothers who play that music at Disneyland almost every day. About once a month they make it out to where I live and all these young swing dancers come out.

Little T&A
...this 4 a.m rocker is Keith at his debauched best.Which of course means
his very, very worst.

I prefer a 4 a.m.rocker like this one, than a sucker who think he has written the review of the year.

This is a prime example of how to play rock'n'roll-guitar. should be taught in school.

Yes, that "revival" came and went with the late 90s. It should give us all hope though--maybe one day there will be a rock-n-roll revival. -Stonesnow

[www.ew.com] is a pretty funny website. I used to read it, but then I deleted it from my favorites when they blah blahed some stupid crap one too many times...

...but since reading this thread, I have been peeking back at it's (so called) "headlines"... how funny... how gossipy. Did you read the one where Elton called Madonna a state fair stripper? How funny. I dont like Madonna or Elton, but a cat fight can be kind of funny.
