Ronnie Wood - "The Band's Hands" Print Box Set
Posted by: bye bye johnny ()
Date: August 29, 2019 21:37

Ronnie has paid tribute to his Rolling Stones band mates in this new boxset.
The hands have such personality; they are the connection of each member of the greatest rock and roll band in the world, with their instrument. This series is available as a set of four personally hand-signed prints and a signed frontispiece in a presentation box, strictly limited to 150 sets.

Good for Ronnie that he has a hobby. It's amateur work though. At a steep price. 1 650 €. The value would be his autograph on them.

When I read that, I thought of watercolour hand prints. Keiths right hand is very distinctive, that image doesn't come close

And again, the Stones follow the Beatles.

22 years ago, Ringo published his paintings in a book entitled "The Beatles' Balls".

Hands are extremely difficult to draw.

his graphic artwork is sometimes brilliant, but these aren't some of his better efforts.
.. neither was that Picasso riff awhile back..

Be fair: If Wood weren't a celebrity he wouldn't be able to make a living out of his art. There are hundreds of thousands of amateurs out there just as good or better.
The value is not in his art, it's in his name. I do not begrudge him his hobby though. On the contrary, it's a very good thing. Way better than boozing or doing drugs for instance.
If you buy something - make sure you get it signed. It's the only thing that insures value in it. The art doesn't.

I think that's a great idea of Ronnie, and well drawn. But come on...a bound book?
Did Charlie ever publish his hotel-room beds?

Edit - in response to Duke, below, I think I meant the Charlie reference as " well Charlie doesn't feel the need to publish and sell his doodlings". I wonder if he himself ever looks at all of them. "Oh yes...Den Haag, 87; good comforter...oh I remember this one.. Hospital corners on the sheets..hmm" zzzzz LOL

Laughable. Almost as bad as Paul Stanley's efforts.

Nothing can be as bad as anything to do with Kiss or that idiot Gene Simmons - I notice you did say almost.

Charlie's hands really look quite religious.
Why, Ron?

At first I couldn't even tell what I was looking at. (What's on his fingertip? )
Wait ... no, Mick does not have six fingers ...
It's the handle of a maraca.

Maraca looks too small in relation to the hand maybe...
Perspective on both the handle and the oval top is not good.
Adding the Stones logo (and perhaps the beads) is a distraction...
Oval bands around the top would have been a better choice, imo.
The handle might have been thicker than the fingers to quickly differentiate visually...
Maybe you could have also used that yellow ochre colo(u)r for the handle and/or the top?
The floating harmonica looks like an afterthought.

Love this one!
Obviously it's the most personal one.
The logo is very ephemeral and works well as negative space ...

A good example of Ron's from-life seeing and drawing abilities...
Something that doesn't look like he simply copied a photograph.

Do you mean what's bad about it apart from the fact that Ronnie can't draw hands? He has no understanding of anatomy, composition or even the very basics of art. You can see where he gets lost by the amount of fudging and indistinct washes and textures in his work. It's childlike. His work is tasteless and juvenile. At best he is a keen hobbyist with a lot to learn. It's utterly stupid that people buy this rubbish because the "artist" plays guitar in a band.

Drawing hands is really difficult.
Gotta give Ronnie credit for always trying to be creative musically and visually...

But his artwork has always been around sophomore art school level.
Sometimes I'm surprised that Ron shows and markets this stuff ...
Almost like it diminishes his stock ...

On the other hand ... he's Ron Wood and he's never been shy about showing off his artwork.
It's the people that buy this stuff that I wonder about.

Here's a master at hands, Albrecht Dürer:

I have to say this one is actually bad. a bad drawing. And to be pedantic: in the other one with the folded hands, Charlie's hands do not look like that.
Like Worried says, he is a decent hobbyist. And I get it that he published a book once, showing us what he saw in his world; but..actually it's funny, I just realized. Setlists? LOL
