Is "Angie" Keith's masterpiece as an accoustic player?

The introduction in itself is really amazing and although Keith had done wonders before on accoustic "WildHorses", Angie is something else. Fanstatic work on these accoustic guitars.Maybesome will argue that it is not Keith playing but I think it is just by intuition.

It’s not a masterpiece. It’s as simple as it gets

The intro is slightly more intricate than you would think, compared to the simplified live version.

Here's a nice breakdown:

Ok it is simple but it is played in a way that is amazing. The configuration of the chords and the tempo, when the arpeggios start are different and create a sound that is fantastic. it is not just stumming Aminor, E7, G etc..

Why does music have to be difficult or complicated to be beautiful?

You are right it doesn’t have to be. But it doesn’t fit the definition of masterpiece Not at all. It’s the same when people use the phrase “pure genius “ to describe a simple base line.

Almost hear you Sigh is pretty good. And his playing on Beggars Banquet. Angie the intro is beautiful. But then the piano and other instruments drown him out. It’s poorly recorded.I can’t make out his guitar and Taylor’s.It all sounds muddy

The guitars are distinctly panned and Taylor plays a 12 string. It's easy to hear who's who.

Does the Gilles Martin mix shed better light on the subjects?

I’m assuming it’s Nicky Hopkins on the piano. The song would have been good
without the piano - it but it’s absolutely brilliant with Nicky’s beautiful talent and skills. Just my opinion…

If it was simple as suggested anyone could have written it and should have written another by now.

Every song is a bit of genius & gift. It’s a really cool intro

Keith changed it a bit during the '73 tour. Suits the live vibe better.

Never understood why some dislike "Angie", but love "Wild Horses". I think they're both great.

And Nicky's piano in "Angie" is excellent.

"Angie Baby" by Helen Reddy isn't quite as good.

I think its the best sounding acoustic on a Stones record. As far as his best performance I would say no. Micks acoustic is far better on Moonlight Mile

Bob Dylan Names Three Rolling Stones Songs He Wishes He’d Written

In a new interview with the New York Times, Dylan chooses ‘Angie’ along with ‘Ventilator Blues’ and ‘Wild Horses.’

ANGIE

Bob Dylan has named the 1973 US No. 1 ‘Angie’ among three songs by the Rolling Stones that he wishes he could have written.

In a new interview for the New York Times with Douglas Brinkley to mark the 19 June release of his Rough and Rowdy Ways album, Dylan is asked the question in the context of his song ‘I Contain Multitudes,’ from the new record. In the track, he sings “I’m just like Anne Frank, like Indiana Jones/And them British bad boys, the Rolling Stones/I go right to the edge, I go right to the end/I go right where all things lost are made good again.”
Dylan is asked by Brinkley to name three Stones songs he would like to have authored. “Oh, I don’t know,” he replied, “maybe ‘Angie,’ ‘Ventilator Blues’ and what else, let me see. Oh yeah, ‘Wild Horses.’
