yes, must be in the same context, but this has another audio to my ears too. surely not live, perhaps micks singing. it is unusual to do different promos ...

To me, this video this promo is one of the key moments in the band´s history. I like it much better than the coloured promo with make up.

Maybe the music is pre-recorded, but I bet, it was recorded live in studio.

Leaving behind their image as

blues purists
wannabe pop stars
Beatles rivals
psychedelic musicians

they make their very first appearance as a true ROCK BAND !! Including Brian !

Cool, to see Brian with a Telecaster.

Still believe, he played the high notes on the chorus (studio version).

The music is a recording and they are miming to it.

It's about as live as any of their other 1968 output. There are overdubs.

One of the defining Stones moments for me.
The first time I saw it about 5-6 years ago, it was like discovering a holy grail.
First and foremost the classic studio cut of Jumpin' Jack Flash is my all-time favorite Stones track. It has everything The Stones is about. The composition, the drive, Jagger's vocals, Keith's guitar. Simply EVERYTHING.
Then I saw this one and I was totally knocked out! This version supasses the studio cut. I couldn't believe it and listened to it almost a week non-stop. Fantastic.

Isn't the clip from the New Musical Express gig (1968) where they also played Satisfaction?

Never seen this one. Never saw any of them when they came out in the 60s. Don't know where they would have shown Stones promo films in the 60s on US TV. The first Stones promo film I saw was Angie on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Beatles promo films were another story. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane was on Dick Clark. Hey Jude/Revolution on The Smothers Brothers. All of the Beatles promo films found a place in the US. It goes along with my theory that the Stones weren't as big in the U.S. as they wanted to be and that their 1969 tour was crucial. After that they were on a much bigger scale in the states.

The best version of JJF there is IMHO. I remember when I first heard it a a couple of years ago and was completely blown away.

Does anybody know if it's available on any bootleg?

I want to believe that as well since it sound like a Brian-part. But I think it's Keith. Brian's part in this is more likely one of the guitars playing the main riff.

Both vids are around for ages.

680427A 27th April: London, Olympic Sound Studios. Producer: Jimmy Miller.
Sound engineer: Glyn Johns. Recording of a playback for the promovideo.
- Jumping Jack Flash VI (MJ/KR) - STU on piano, Jimmy Miller on backing
vocals; promofilm 1-version

680511B 11th May: London, Olympic Sound Studios. Shooting of a promofilm.
Director: Michael Lindsay-Hogg.
- Jumping Jack Flash 2 (MJ/KR) -miming to recorded version III
Note: The promos for Child Of The Moon and Jumping Jack Flash 2
(the famous version with the painted faces) were recorded both on
the same day about two weeks after Jumping Jack Flash 1 was filmed.
This promo 2 was shown on Top Of The Pops on the 23rd May,
6th June and 25th December. Either on foreign and/or later airings
the soundtrack of the promofilm was changed to the 7" single-version.

I feared that, but you have to admit that only the "painted faces"-version is commonwinking smiley! So am I right, that the "unpainted" version was shot on 27th April 1968?

I've always liked that version.

It's not as good as the released version but has a nice earthy basic feel to it.

"Yeah... yeah..."

I like the unique bits, but it's sped up too much. Mick leans toward the chipmunks with the sped up vocal.

This has his natural speed:

Love the first video. Charlie looks like a vicious bruiser. That sheen; and he is clenching his teeth. Charlie always was great at adding his bit spice.

It is interesting to compare those 'videos' aesthetically, especially concerning Jagger's performance. The first (b&w one) posted here still presents Jagger as his 66/67 frantic pop star Swingin' London look and movements (including the clothes), but the colorful onen (with make up), that I think was teh one finally shown in public, is dramatically different. Jagger is creating there a new persona, and new ways of moving and posing (with more emphasized, slower ones, more dangerous, etc.). This persona will full blossom up in ROCK AND ROLL CIRCUS - after the Turner experience - a half yaer later. Interesting to wittness such a work in progress.

My first thoughts exactly at the moment I first saw the first video. Same goes for the NME concert if you look at stills. Could have been 1967.

Great stuff,I"ve never seen the b/w promo. My Father,God bless him, hated The Stones. All thru the 60s and on-wards he gave the brother and me dogs abuse when we used to play the records.Looking at Bill in the promo reminds me of comments made by my Dad,He would have said "he looks like something from The Walking Dead"

This promo has been around for at least a decade if not longer in video form. The audio was booted as far back as the early to mid 70s on the "Beautiful Delilah" LP.... also NOT from the NME 68 perfromance....

Yeah I know nothing new really but the way Mick appears in the first video is similar to his style in the NME concert. Totally different later that same year after his trip to LA...

Excellent video clip. Would love to see this get an official release in pristine quality, if it exist.
