Fast Talking, Slow Walking

How did they possibly overlook this amazing track?
First of all I thought this was a cover, but I love the jam, I love the melody I love the changes rhythm, and I love the lyrics, what’s not to love about this superb piece… Except why why why have they not released it?

Maybe for a IORR Deluxe-release?

I think too that they preserved some gems for future use. Universal Music needs something interesting to sell every future Xmas - like they already do with the Beatles.

Hard Women sounds a little bit like it. Personally, I like Separately, Traveling Man, Blood Red Wine, Hillside Blues, Its Funny, In the Middle of the Sea, and others better. And I’m sure there are other unpublished stuff and live concerts and jams in their vaults .What I’d like to see on the internet is like what the Beatles have, isolated anddeconstructed tracks. I have software where I can remove vocals, keyboards drums and it’s interesting to hear the songs that way. Like on Micks Goddess in a Doorway I sometimes just listen to the music which is really good and remove some of the vocals

Good song, and, yes, "Hard Woman" sounds similar.

I love this song (Fast Talking, Slow Walking), so underrated.

For the longest time YT had 2 Stones channels that had 250+ & 120 RS instrumentals playlists...a lot of studio stuff, but also a fair amount of unreleased. They're not up today, however I'll look at my YT subscriptions & see which ones are "inactive", maybe they'll repost at a later date.

Its a pleasant listen, but calling it 'amazing' is a bit of a stretch.

They might still release it though - it's an IORR outtake as far as I'm aware.

Quite possibly being considered for an IORR package. The circulating track sounds like a sort-of demo. Would they consider releasing it as such or would they want to give it more work. Perhaps there is a more finished version in the vaults.

Will someone please post the lyrics to this gem? Please! I've looked several times & couldn't ever find them.

I’m going with future release. I’ve thinking the Stones are saving it for a deluxe box set.

Thanks in advance.

Probably because it sounds too much like Let It Loose meets Bennie And The Jets. It has a few little EXILE sounding bits in it in places. No telling if they noticed that or were capable of at the time or cared or maybe they did it on purpose or maybe it's just part of the style of writing back then. I like it but I don't, it doesn't catch anything, really, it just meanders a bit, like a wave runner stuck on idle going in a circle.

No exact way to know when and which came first but they also recorded If You Really Want To Be My Friend during the same session, which is a much more interesting song, so having two songs about friends on IT'S ONLY ROCK'N'ROLL might've been a bit too much. If they do a deluxe reissue of it it seems reasonable that it would be included, especially since it's considerably better than a majority of what made the SOME GIRLS bonus album.

Since it's not posted and perhaps there are some out there that haven't heard it or would like to...

I really like the new version. I've been listening to this version and the old bootleg version carefully and I've noticed something funny : for me, from 3:57 to 4:12, the vocals are the original ones, not the new ones. I can even hear a hiss.

Do you agree ?

The bit when Mick sings "I've got the dearest friends of all" reminds me of Mott The Hoople. Probably one of the ballads from their Mott album. I'm sure I've heard Ian Hunter's voice singing the same melody.

Or maybe I'm imagining it.....

Not sure I agree that If You Really Want to be My Friend is a ‘much more interesting song’. To me IYRWTBMF always sounds too plush and rather fake. Plus the main sentiment seems to be ‘if this is gonna work, you’ll have to let me shag around’ which is not exactly a winning argument. Much prefer ‘Fast Walking’…

The lyrics of the released version are available now but I'd love to have the ones of the "classic" outtake. I've started to transcribe them, but I cannot understand all the words. Here is what I understand, can you help me to complete it? Thanks!

Update : thanks JMARKO !

[00:12]
I'm a fast-talking,
slow-walking,
hard-headed man
when I'm on.

[00:24]
I'm a low-shooting,
hard-losing,
hard pressing (?) man
on the phone.

[00:38]
Ain't it hard to find
a guide in this life at all?
I'm on call.
I'm feeling lucky
‘cos I've got the dearest friends of all.

[01:05]
I'm a hard pressing,
slow-messing
Oh baby,
When I'm on the phone.

[01:18]
I'm a line tooting,
bend tooting
,
Oh baby, I'm crying (?) alone.

[01:32]
Ain't it hard to find
A guide through this life at all?
I'm on call.
And I'm feeling lucky
‘cos I've got the dearest friends of all.

[01:56]
I'm (?) down me.
I feel it when I walk (?).
Every drop is healing me,
Let it fall, let it fall.

[02:20]
Yeah, I'm a (?) student,
bad-losing,
hard-headed,
(?) man (?)

Whoa, yeah.

[02:34]
I'm a high-stepping,
up-getting,
go-getting boy
when I'm on.

[02:46]
Sure is hard to find
a friend in this life at all.
‘Cos I'm feeling lucky
‘cos I got the dearest friend of all.

[03:34]
I'm a high-stepping,
low-gettning,
go-getting,
I don't give a shit at all.

[03:47]
I'm a sharp-dressing,
Ill-messing,
baby, won't you call me on the telephone?
Oh.

[03:59]
Ain't it hard to find
a guide through this world at all?
That ain't (?)
I'm feeling lucky
‘cos I've found the dearest friend of all.

[4:40]
Mumbling…

[06:04]
One more time.
Fast-shooting,
ass-whooping
(?)

[06:12]
Because I'm feeling lucky
‘cos I've found the dearest friend of all.
Yes, I have. Oh, yes, I have.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Sounds like a song Freddy Mercury could have done.....

"No dope smoking no beer sold after 12 o'clock"

1:18 I believe the first line is

“I’m a line tootin’”

1:56 first line I believe he references rain.

This would make the rest of the verse make sense.

I can't stand this song. It's as horrible as Drift Away. Very understandable they didn't release these ones, at the time.
