Saw Rockpile in concert 4 times--three of them were at the Southern California shows they did in Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Hollywood High in '78 as opening act for the Elvis Costello /Mink DeVille tour. The other show was at the Whiskey a little bit later that same year, where they played for a packed house.
Rockpile did more recording than just that one album, as they previously alternated as the backing group on solo albums by Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe before they finally made an official group record.
Onstage they really didn't have an "act." They just came out and played straight-ahead rock. You looked at those paunchy guys on the album jacket back then and they seemed just a little too old to go along with any grooming or styling. They had no "rock star" airs. They were just regular guys.
No pose, just good playing.
Apart from "Teacher, Teacher" (the single) my favorite track on the album might be this one:
