Paint It Black (length of Hot Rocks vs London Singles Collection versions)

Just noticed some slight differences in length between the versions of Paint it Black on
London Years Singles Collection: 3:44
Hot Rocks compilation: 3:24

Also a slight difference on Let's Spend the Night Together:
London Years Singles Collection: 3:24
Hot Rocks compilation: 3:35

Are these the same versions? I've tried comparing them but can't figure this one out!

Paint It Black on Hot Rocks 1 [London 820 141-2] is stereo version.
Paint It Black on The London Years [London 820 900-2] is mono version.

The similar story with LSTNT
Stereo on Hot Rocks
Mono (or almost mono) on The London Years

There are a few more like that on In Mono box from 2016.

I'd never noticed the mono vs stereo differences before as my stereo speakers are pretty close together on the other end of the room, but when I relistened to both versions up close so that each speaker is aimed at different ears I can really hear the difference.

So I guess the purists here are going to prefer the original mono version eh? I really like the stereo mixes, they sound more full and don't take anything away from the song.

Initially, the idea was to find out which version of the mp3s to get rid of in order to avoid doubling up my computer-based library, but it looks like I'm going to keep both now as they are indeed different, and this will be more noticeable the day I get my bedroom/office truly stereo-equipped.

Another thing you will notice with a good sound system is that the mp3 format is not the best choice for audio.

Honestly, I don't hear the difference between a CD and an mp3 I've ripped from said CD. I'm not looking for the utmost FLAC perfection either; most of the time, when I'm listening to music I'm working or doing other stuff, a 256/192 mp3 is just as great (I alternate between CDs and my mp3 collection when I'm into listening to a random-playlist of my stuff)

Good BT-Speakers can be connected together and used as a Stereo-pair - [www.WhatHiFi.com] , [www.BassHeadSpeakers.com] , [www.T3.com] .

There are 2 mono versions
1. 3:44 on Singles Collection
2. 3:22 on Aftermath US from box set In Mono, 2016. Same take as for the previous one but with early fade.
And we'll not go deep into mastering here winking smiley

Great idea. Which Paint It Black did you use?

I'd love to hear it.
