No, I live in the U.S. I was just pointing out that the general public [in the UK] wouldn't care so much for gossip about people as old as the Stones... or would they? I am aware of the ageist attitude in your country toward old bands/musicians--although Macca did recently have an album in the top 5 in the UK just months ago... ahh, but they were old standards, weren't they? You Brits do tend to allow a band only a decade of relevance.

I dont think thats necessarily the case.

Older acts still sell records and concert tickets in large numbers.

The more 'trendy' music press tend to be a bit ageist when it comes to 'relevance' (a leftover from the punk era) although thats less the case now. And the major music magazines (the quality ones) are very much dominated by vintage acts.

Saying that, the Stones havent really been that 'relevant' musically anyway since their first decade (even if they continued to make good and often great music). Maybe thats a sign of an evolving culture rather than a bias. Depends what way you look at it. If a bunch of 60 or 70 somethings are deemed to be cutting edge, I'm not so sure thats a good sign!

The tabloid press though are a different animal entirely. The irony is that the 'wrinkly rockers' digs were originally made by journalists who are themselves now around pension age and still writing the same nonsense.

Well, good to hear there's more reverence in the UK for older acts. The tabloid thing is an unfortunate element of the culture, but there are less physical demands on 'wrinkly writers' than on 'wrinkly rockers.' For what it's worth, I do hope that MOJO and UNCUT not to mention Q will be represented at Somerset House on the 12th.

I would be very suprised if one of the red tops didn't have a picture of the 6 members and a headline adding up their ages - 320 or whatever it is eye rolling smiley

Imagine: what could happen, if the Stones are in London?

If there is no press conference, what might otherwise take place?

A private media event with only selected and invited guests and later broadcast?

Making a video like this as "Thank-You-for-50-Years"?

Or will simply nothing take place because the 12th of July 2012 is over-hyped?

The Independent does the age thing today and interviews Dick Taylor.

I thought that was his tour hair, but on closer inspection you may be right. Does that mean Wyman is going 'Charlie Watts' for the 2013 tour?

The back light enhances the skull shape of Richard's head . The camera and light technitians did a very bad work in here (as well as Jagger's hairdresser)

Please post here if you have any confirmed infos about time of the event etc

First: I have absolutely no new infos for the next Thursday sad smiley

But imagine: what could happen, if the Stones are in London?

That's the problem. I expect to be underwhelmed.

A photocall and that's about it. I'd be surprised if they do a Q&A with the press, as most journalists will probably still be more fixated on 'todgergate' and the chance to exploit that with BOTH Mick and Keith present than on anything the Stones plan to do as a band. I'd imagine any questions they do allow will be vetted beforehand.

So I'll keep the expectancy and excitement levels pretty low, and anything more than that will be a bonus.

an impromptu performance of streets of love with charlie playing pennywhistle and keith on kazoo would be a bonus?

OH GOOD LORD!!!!...you're really scaring me now...stonestod..please stop..i am losing sleep over that one..

To some people it will be shown around the world! For those of us in reality, it won't be shown around the world except on youtube in bits and pieces.

Sorry, this is the Wardour Street venue. OK, I'll look for some Oxford Street images. Back in a few...

Thanks!

There are a large number of photos of the Wardour Street venue, but none seem to be available from the Oxford Street venue, aside from indoor/performance pics. It was a ballroom in the basement of the Academy Cinema.

Otherwise, they only have later "site of" pics of the former Oxford Street venue.

You can find these at

www.themarqueeclub.net/club

by clicking on the Gallery link in the Summary box on the left.

Also, the official Marquee website has word of an upcoming documentary on the history of the Marquee club from 1958 to 2008:

Site of the first Marquee Club, 165 Oxford Street, London.

Which, these days, is about as exciting as going shopping.
