How About A Stones Reality Show On Next Tour?
Date: June 29, 2012 07:57

Have the cameras rolling night and day on the next tour. Bring the Rolling Stones traveling circus right into millions of homes all over the world. Show it like it really is behind the scenes while the boys are on tour. They would instantly gain thousands of new fans. Not that they need them. I think it would be a smash hit, especially in America.

Now before you start calling for my head again, think about it. Think how cool this would be as a fan to follow the Stones behind the scenes while they tour the world. Scorcese should have done something like this instead of doing a concert film. Reality shows are very popular these days. Clint Eastwood's wife Dina has her own reality show. It's great. You see people as they really are. How they deal with their kids, etc. Sometimes it isn't pretty but that is what is so intriguing about them. What do you think?

To even think that Mick Jagger wants anyone to "see then for who they really are" shows that you don't understand the man at all. What possible motivation would these people have for this intrusion into their private lives? Reality shows are for C-list has-been celebrities or other people so despereate to be on television that they are willing to give up most of their privacy in exchange. I hardly think these four people fall into either category.

The world's first reality show was of the [American] Loud family in the early 1970s. Lance Loud had interview bits in the Rodney Bingenheimer bio-doc Mayor of the Sunset Strip.

You a fan of Lance Loud? Is anyone?

Then, so much for so-called "reality TV!"

I remember the Loud show. It was quite shocking at the time. A family literally came apart on television. I think someone did a "where are they now" bit on the Louds a few years ago.

Yes, it was indeed shocking and groundbreaking [if a bit voyeuristic] in its time. And if you look at the video doc Mayor of the Sunset Strip, you'll see that Lance Loud really is quite, well, LOUD, but the point is, before their reality TV reference we really know nothing about them and they otherwise have nothing to offer. We're just being allowed to peep into their otherwise uninteresting and untalented lives. Besides a voyeur's glimpse into their private worlds, what do they have to offer that is artistically substantial and lasting? So, how are established artists going to add anything for their fans through such a portrayal that "reality TV" would offer? Did Ozzy Ozbourne's 1990s reality BS [bad career advice Sharon!] change the way you would listen to Black Sabbath/Ozzy music? If anything, it made him look like a clown, emphasizing all the druggy/wasted cliches that we all like to laugh at. Making a sitcom out of artists. We don't need that--and we don't need to see Keith, especially, needing that!

It might get a bit expensive, 4 camera crews jumping in 4 limosines at the end of each show, ( + the add-ons for all the rest of them) watching Charlie draw each hotel room would be riveting TV no doubt. Would there be much to see apart from rehearsals and the ocaissional after show party ?

If any one of them was likely to do anything with 'reality' it would probaly be Ron Wood, maybe Celebrity Big Brother at some point in the future when all the Stones stuff does finally keel over.......................

Seriously????

NO.
The allure of The Rolling Stones is their mystique.
Please don't show me anything from behind the curtain.

I'm afraid it would either be too contrived, or extremely boring.
Reality TV sucks the life out of everyone involved, including the viewer.

Please don't ever think that "dumbing down" The Stones would be a good idea.

I remember watching the Loud Family.. Channel 13 in New York, I believe. Lance as one of the brothers.

I saw it 10 years later, and by this time they had an update on the members. Lance was in a band, a lead singer type, but didn't get anywhere, though he did wind up hanging out in LA with Rodney Bingenheimer and that whole crazy scene. Have you seen Mayor of Sunset Strip? Lance has interview bits throughout. Good film from the early 2000s that really addresses the strange yet universally appealing qualities of celebrity.

Regarding that reality TV thing, though, that began with the Louds, kind of weird and creepy, like peeping into someone's windows without being seen. What do "reality" TV people really have to offer aside from their privacy, which in itself is no discernible talent. It all becomes Warholian, people becoming famous just for being famous. But even people who seek fame, people with talent, that is--like the Stones--require a certain modicum of privacy in their lives. We are interested in people like the Stones for what they do, rather than for instance how they sit about chatting about this and that in their ordinary everyday moments.

Yes they are. Amongst culture-deprived morons. Morons obsessed with people who are themselves self-obsessed.

thumbs up to what Kurt said.

This band has dumbed down enough in recent years already without turning into a wrinkled version of the f**king Kardashians.

Well, I never thought Clint Eastwood would sign off on his wife doing a reality show. Nobody is more private than Clint. Age changes people. Sometimes people become less guarded.

Oh I can see it now, another C o c k s u c k e r 's Blues, this time with Viagra and vitamins instead of coke and smack......no thanks.

...althouth I did VERY much enjoy "Being Mick". Mainly because I saw what an outstanding sense of humor Jagger exuded throughout the film. I also liked the fellow who was his traveling companion and fellow musician. They seemed be having a good time making Goddess in the Doorway. The scenes from Miami alone are worth the price of admission.

My dream of the Stones is probably that of every other rock musician on the planet's, a chance to play with Charlie Watts through Keith's rig and to party with Keith in Jamacia, with both his daughters present of course. winking smiley peace

Please no. The documentary coming is enough. Or, if they do select dates a multi disc with documentary about he concerts would be cool. But please, I don't need to know anything more about their personal lives.

Yes. With morons. Its not all about numbers.

Why would someone buy a ticket for a concert because of a show that has no connection with music. Seriously - thats the sort of Stones audience you want?

If they want to fill empty seats - how about not charging stupid money for tickets? Just a thought. You know, attracting people who like their MUSIC?

Jesus wept. Do you have ANY standards?

Guilty as charged and proud of it - if 'elitist' means avoiding breathing the same air as the sort of peasants and oxygen-thieves to whom Keith Richards is merely 'that old guy from Pirates of the Caribbean who snorted his dad'.

Nobody but a few of us old farts gives a hoot about the actual music anymore. It's all about the show. Watching Mick, move like Jagger. Watching Keith swaggering across the stage doing his best pirate impersonation. It's about fireballs, fireworks, and jumbo screens. It's about playing so loud the dead are awaken. No, the actual music means very little today. We are about to become extinct.

Most behind-the-scenes stuff I've seen in recent years has been pretty boring, not sure it would make good TV. They'd definitely have to manufacture some stuff I think. Meet and greets with corporate types, sprints, billiards, wardrobe decisions. I don't see any of these things making for a TV show anybody would want to watch. As a die-hard Stones fan I can't even promise I would watch. Besides, I've always seen reality TV as a place for has-been's and never-will-be's (although a few never-will-be's sometimes enjoy 15-20 min of fame, then become has-been's) and it's just not something I see the Stones needing to pursue.

Yeah, I was sure someone would mention "Being Mick", but was that really behind the scenes with Mick, or just another Jagger-controlled aspect of his personality he put forward for people to consume?

Mick saw it coming way back when he did Rock 'N' Roll Circus. He didn't seem to mind. Never has really.

They put loads of clips on the official website and thats all you need. Got a couple of boot DVDs with about 40 3 mniute clips of setting up and Mick visiting places etc.

As with certain others here I have no interest in so called reality TV. What's it going to be, Mick goes out for dinner, Charlie pops out to buy a watch etc? It has nothing to do with the music.
