Page WAS a ruthless rip-off artist... when will you all accept this fact?
Ray Davies or the Stones were true originals.

David Lindley used a violin bow on a guitar when he was playing with Kaleidoscope, also in 1967.

Page said he heard of the technique from David McCallum's father, who was a a classical violinist. This was back in his session days, of course. He also used it in the Yardbirds.
To be fair, I don't recall Page ever mentioning that he was the first to do so.

Supposedly Pete Townsend asked Eddie Phillips (the Creation's guitarist) to join The Who, but apparently it was just a story to gain publicity:

I'd never heard about that before, not in any Who or PT bios. The only second guitarist in the Who was Roger Daltrey, who played lead when they were calling themselves the Detours.

Once Roger gave up guitar to become the lead singer, Pete's decision to alternate as sole rhythm/lead guitarist was influenced by a band who was already going at the time, Johnny Kidd and The Pirates, who were rock's original three-piece musical outfit, whose song Shakin' All Over (1960) the Who later famously covered:

Even to many Zepplin fans, (not necessarily me) the mid section of Dazed & Confused was bathroom/beer break time at their concerts.

I always loved it when Pagey would break out the sextuple neck!

Supposedly Townshend was in the Creation's fan club. Creation did have a definete Who sound, with Biff Bang Pow having an opening riff similar to My Generation. Their biggest hit, Making Time, is also very Who-like, although I still like it. BTW, Ron Wood was a member of the Creation for a short time after leaving the Birds.

I'm shocked, shocked that English rock stars would nick ideas from other musicians!

Wouldn't be surprised. They did share the same producer in Shel Talmy, so they probably hung out as well.

So that's why Pink Floyd broke up.

David McCallum did an excellent album produced by David Axelrod. Dr Dre sampled from it.

I admit I myself bought a violin bow to to use it on the guitar. What intrigued me was the idea to play an open tuned guitar or bass, as a sort of cello.

Experiments lasted a week or so.

First, it took a while before I understood that you need to rub the hair of the bow with rosin before you can get it working. Second, it is very hard to play with a bow an electric guitar, because these instruments have an almost flat finger board and a very low action compared to violin.

At the end, the only thing you can really do well is make noise with the amp turned way up (as Jimi did).

p.s. It always amazes me to read how much Jimi Page - I mean, one of the most incredible rock musicians EVER appeared on earth - gets bashed here ...

The Creation song Through My Eyes is also in the soundtrack to Julien Temple's Sex Pistols bio-doc The Filth and the Fury.

I won't bash him. To sit in front of Jimmy and watch him play guitar is pure magic to me.

Plus the fact that Page's guitar playing is featured prominently on 60% of pop songs released in the UK between 1963 and 1966.

The only reason Jeff Beck joined the Yardbirds was because Jimmy Page initially turned down the band's request to replace the slot vacated by Clapton, what with all the lucrative session work he had at the time.

Think again:

True, but it's old news. A number of others also used this technique
to varying degrees, to the east, Tintern Abbey, to the west, The Electric
Prunes. Compared to others who tried this, I think Ken Williams of The Prunes
did it best. He demonstrated how to play it on his shoulder back in 2001,
during the promotion for "Artifact".

I've always enjoyed Page's sleazy bowing. Perfect for coloring, darkly.

Page used the bow much more effectivley than Eddie did.

Basically, for some, it's all and only about the bashing. regardless of the topic!
