I'm serious. Respectable is BORRRRRRRING.

Lies kicks ass.

Respectable is one of the more definitive songs in the Stones' catalog.

Definitively BORING!

Definitive? Oh hell no. It's pedestrian Stones, sped up Chuck Berry. Which is fine, it's just not a great tune by any means.

This song has nothing to do with Chuck Berry. I am concerned.

Least best track on a masterpiece.

The only song I would consider to be replaced by a few tracks of
the Some Girls outtakes.

I always considered this a weak link...put in retrospect when it
came out in 1978...it served its purpose letting people know that
the Stones knew Punk was going on.

30 something years later...it doesn't hold up with the rest of
the great songs on Some Girls.

Lol
People that have the great 28 don't even know the true chuck berry.

Respectable?...What would Some Girls be without Respectable?...great track...
the same vibe they were going for with Lies...no need for two...Respectable wins!

I love both, more than Whip ... but if I had to pick one, Respectable wins for me too, over Lies! I agree, totally great!

Respectable is Chuck Berry a thousand miles an hour. Yet there's not much Chuck Berrying going on in the song. Perhaps the only reason it's garnered such respect is because it was lyrically relevant for Mick at that time. But if that little lyrical subject is what makes that sidewalk of a song great then y'all be walking in the wrong part of town!

Lies kicks ass. It has a hilarious edit at 2:17 too.

To be honest - I was going to bring this song up because it is a song that never ever gets talked about. They barely touched it even on the '78 tour. I been listening to the Pathe Marconi outtakes obsessively for the last few weeks. It is a bit of a surprise that this one made the cut with so many strong contenders that did not. yes, Punk, Punk, but they had "Whip" and "Respectable" already.
Still, it is kind of an extra shake before zipping up Side 1.
It always make me think of "She Said Yeah".
And I love the harmonies on "the word "Lies".

One of their worst songs, all throughout 1962.
very weak.

Agree "Lies" is the weakest track.
The version on Passaic NJ Capital Theatre is slowed down but to me, has a different kind of punk energy.
My favorite, and I think the best version of the song.
There are a couple of early studio takes of it that remind me of the early "Steel Wheels" tracks. Way better and more raw without the final layers of production.

At least some who back me up ....the most weakest track ever recorded by the Stones I can name at least 10 rejected songs that are better than Lies............

I love Lies and Respectable. That's that era's Stones rock and roll workouts imo, and very passionately well done. There's Bill shining bright and powerful.
a LOT of stuff is very enjoyable listening for me w those two, and a few more similar to their driving simplifcity. I like 'em quite a bit, and find them very durable and pleasing.

The song is great as it rips and shreds relentlessly for a short three+ minutes,
Fast and Stonesy guitars throughout - would be more than grateful if they released something like this today, but doubt they could pull something like this off anymore.

Take off this piece of crap off Some Girls, replace it with Claudine and boom.

Claudine is pretty weak. It doesn't go anywhere musically, and is a one-joke wonder lyrically. Basically a novelty song rightly left off the original record.

Yeah, but it's pretty interchangeable with Lies, except its better. Lies is ludicrously bad. If it's supposed to be punk, it's lame. Claudine is at least a humourous time filler to end an album side.

It's anything but lame. Find another adjective, please smiling smiley

BobSegerish? I once counted how many times Bob Seger said Against The Wind in that particular song. Lies is that kind of song. Only fast. Yes, I'm going with BobSegerish as my adjective. smiling smiley

Check out "Nobody But Me" by Human Beinz. No is said over 200 times.

"No Anchovies, Please"

lies is perfect
it's still blasting my parents, metaphorically, out of the basement
and those lovely souls passed a mighty long time ago.
it's perfect. i play it often.
